Pissed at UVA

It’s better than good.

Her stats were too low for UVA. Did you not look at Naviance, etc?

so is the GPA.

OP's entitlement and privilege is showing

OP is profoundly disappointed and is lashing out, so show some grace instead piling on like a stinking pile of dog sh--. LOTS of states show big time in-state preference to the premier state schools. UVA does not. And it has to sting (and my DC is not applying there). VA states, like UVA, Tech, W&M, should absolutely place a priority on residency, imo. THey'd do it w/o sacrificing their brand, as well. It sucks they don't but places like NC do.

This is not true. UVA was 100% more generous in admissions to VA residents over DC/MD residents for applicants from our highly competitive DC private.

Yeah, if they were really in tune with UVA, they'd already know this. The in-state and out of state acceptance rates are easy to find. I think OP is just a kid trying to stir the pot here.

UVA admits 32% OOS. The other great state public systems do not take in that great of a percentage.

The rejection must still sting.

But..... six of her friends got in EA and only two are going. So, 4 spots just pissed into the wind at her HS. And she has to sit it all out.

It just sucks. I can't help but be irate that some kid from Jersey can go there but my daughter can't

The measly $1000 I donated every year will cease.

her scores are not UVA material and legacy doesn't matter anymore.

It’s almost as if OP is just now realizing how tough it is to get into top schools these days.

Those stats were fine 15 years ago but the world has changed. Kids with a 4.0 are common (and still get rejected without other impressive stats)

+1. Today, with Naviance Scoir and Schev there really is no excuse for a post like this

+1. There is so much data available now that everyone knows going into applying to UVA, the ivies or other top schools that it’s all a lottery. Posts like this might have made sense a decade ago but no longer since we have SCHEv, Naviance and Scoir. Just reading results here and on college confidential and Reddit told me my kid didn’t have a chance in hell when applying a decade ago to Ivies. But the good point is that parents need to educate themselves so they don’t wind up disappointed and pissed like OP. There is simply too much data out there now to be ignorant about admissions. And if you choose to remain ignorant then hire a private counselor to do the job.
