Is it true plain oatmeal, steel cut or otherwise, is not actually a healthy breakfast?

Yeah there is this thing on tiktok right now where people are saying "oh no oat milk and oats spikes your blood sugar!" There has been ample information out there for decades about net carbs and how to reduce the glycemic index of your meal and still these things just come around again and again.

Novac Djokavic eats it every morning for breakfast.

Your colleague is probably a moron obsessed with "carbs" and too stupid to differentiate between oatmeal, and pancakes.

Indeed. I also heart cuddling with your dog spikes blood sugar. Everything spikes blood sugar! We are doomed if we eat oatmeal.

I seriously doubt the OP is running a marathon after her carb loading.

How bad do you suck at math? The label OP posted was 22g, which is 8% of RDA. Multiplied by 2 that's 16%. Sure, there are more carbohydrates in OPs proposed breakfast than that, but that is totally fine. Nobody is managing to put themselves into metabolic disfunction by eating oatmeal - quite the opposite.

NP here, why so angry? I like to cook chopped spinach and an egg in a fry pan and add that to my oatmeal. I don't like sweets, especially in the morning; I much prefer savory oatmeal.

I did not care for savory oatmeal, which I was surprised by. I love a savory French toast, for example. But that aside, I was thinking of the oatmeal the OP describes which has banana and cinnamon added to it. Dropping an egg and cheese in that sounds horrible!

why is it bad for diabetics

Why did you think it was bad for diabetics?

I eat oatmeal every morning, with a splash of half and half and a tablespoon of brown sugar. I haven’t died yet.

Maybe cheese would throw you off, but you know what has the flavor profile of oats, milk, egg, banana, and cinnamon? Cookies. It's like bread pudding -- you essentially suspend the grain in a custard. There's more than one way to add an egg. Without sugar, it's just a less sweet oatmeal-y bread pudding kind of thing.
