In-state UVA or UMich no merit ?

UM is the superior school but you can't ignore that price tag

Is this SFS? SFS probably over UVA in-state.

Therein lies the rub😂 yes

Not true. And if you are from VA. VA is a MUCH harder admit.

$350k Georgetown vs $140k UVA is a big ask.

Most of the rest of the country would pick Michigan, all things being equal

Saying that, the dollar difference and the major would definitely have me choose UVA over any other school costing tens of thousands more per year.

The only VA residents I know at Michigan did not get into UVA. And I know many.

Michigan is ~$60k, GU $85-90k and UVA $35k

No brainer. UVA

They are 22-25 ranked. All 3 of them

Whatcha smoking?

Michigan OOS COA = $76K first two years, $80K junior and senior.

International relations/government/politics leaning

Save your money and go to UVA, even though Michigan is stronger in all of those areas. I wouldn’t pay higher tuition for any public or private for that degree, unless it were something very specific that only that other school could provide.

I am a Michigan grad who believes in minimizing undergrad spending to preserve funds for grad school and getting set up in young adult life. Both schools have a good reputation and UVA has the advantage of being closer to home and the potential job market. There may also be less culture shock. Grad school is a good opportunity to make a second choice of institution to affiliate with and try a different geographic area. I think you should have a clear conscience about picking the more reasonably-priced attractive option (UVA).

Spoken like a reasonable Michigan grad.

Michigan is by the far superior school academically. But only pick it if money is no object. UVA is a great deal for in state.

That’s idiotic. It doesn’t compare VA residents. Every VA kid I know- chose UVA.

Makes sense to me. No Michigan resident would pay that mich more to attend UVA either.

There is a world outside of VA that doesn’t see these two schools at the same level.

Worthless response. Yes it is and lower acceptance does not equal a better school. If quality was based on acceptance rate, BU and NEU would be top 15 institutions with their sub 10%.

Neither Georgetown or Michigan (22 and 21) is worth the $ over #24 nationally ranked UVA. Last year UVA and Michigan were TIED for 3rd in best public university rankings. These always bounce back and forth. Fwiw, all my New England relatives have said UVA is huge at their HS—everyone dying to get in.
