Save your money and go to UVA, even though Michigan is stronger in all of those areas. I wouldn’t pay higher tuition for any public or private for that degree, unless it were something very specific that only that other school could provide.

Any kid with that major should stay in the DMV:

Hopkins, Georgetown, UVA, W&M or GW

The opportunities and access are unprecedented.

Bullshit. This isn’t a close call regardless of major. Michigan is a great school obviously but not worth double the price of UVA for any major.

I agree. But my kid also doesn’t want an enormous school like Michigan

1000% agree. Have you visited UMich? There is no comparison to UVA.

I agree. Almost every comparable program is better in Ann Arbor.

Pp I was agreeing to uva over umich. Absolutely not one single reason to choose umich out of state if uva is an option.

But, nice try.

I’m not saying to go Michigan. I’m just saying that it’s a better school overall academically. A PP says that there was no comparison between to the two, as if UVA were infinitely better. I totally disagree with that remark.

Also got into Georgetown.

But 85k to $35k hard pill to swallow

But Georgetown is barely more expensive than Michigan. Georgetown vs. UVA in-state is a pick ‘em. Michigan is a distant third.

They are ranked nearly identical now. And Michigan only gets the win because it’s 2-3 times the size.

^^^Me too!! plus UMich ranks much higher overall for best undergrad teaching.

Not win- I mean in rankings which are useless anyhow.

I’d pocket the $ and take UVA in a heartbeat. The only kids (other than legacy) I know that chose Michigan did not get into UVA.

That’s how we are leaning.

Georgetown was first choice, but so close to home and so much more $$$$$$—esp for undergrad.

Anybody for whom money is even the slightest concern who picks either Michigan or Georgetown over UVA in state has a screw loose. For any major whatsoever. Get real.

My DC made that choice and picked Michigan but we were OOS for both. Had we been in-state I would have encouraged DC to pick UVA unless money is truy no object.

I am a Michigan grad who believes in minimizing undergrad spending to preserve funds for grad school and getting set up in young adult life. Both schools have a good reputation and UVA has the advantage of being closer to home and the potential job market. There may also be less culture shock. Grad school is a good opportunity to make a second choice of institution to affiliate with and try a different geographic area. I think you should have a clear conscience about picking the more reasonably-priced attractive option (UVA).

Georgetown is $20k more expensive than Michigan and $50k more expensive than UVA.

Michigan is ~$60k, GU $85-90k and UVA $35k

No brainer. UVA

They are 22-25 ranked. All 3 of them
