Possible early dismissal Tuesday?

The issue is whether they will close early, not open late.

They forgot Harford County as well.

Tier 2 elementary school- my child’s bus doesn’t drop him off until 4:15-4:30….. right in the worst of all of it. Schools should absolutely close 2 hours early for the safety of students and all staff

It's not "just" rain these days. 4 inches of rain, depending on how fast it's falling, can wash out tons of roads. It wasn't much more than that that ended up flooding Canal Road a few years ago.

Truth …….. My friend was caught in that. Stood on the roof of his car to survive. Very, very scary.

They still have until 11 or so to do the early dismissal

A couple of years ago, there was a similar threat of heavy rain and wind gusts. This was in August, first week of school. They announced early release and guess what? We didn’t get a single drop of rain nor any wind. The forecast is mostly wrong.

You must be new here. This is MCPS. We regularly have “snow” days off when it only rains (yes, even upcountry). If other school districts are closing early tomorrow, so will we. There is no penalty - if kids have lunch, it counts as a day of school for the state.

I am not new here. I have HS and college kids and I am used to MCPS closing when there is zero issue or precipitation. But I didn't used to see DCUM cheering on the hysteria in advance.

My kid had an early dismissal last month when we only had rain, no wind that caused a tree to fall on a power line. The school and our neighborhood was without power from 1:30pm that day until 8:30 the next morning. In August, when there was rain and wind, power poles snapped in half and we were without power for 3 days.

It’s not hysteria when you stop and consider people other than yourself. Teachers don’t necessarily live next to the buildings they work in. Ever think of driving conditions for people driving back to Howard or Frederick county? In potential floodwaters? Nah, of course you didn’t. You only worry about you and yours.

PGCPS will dismiss 2 hours early.

With PG, Howard, and Anne arundel all dismissing early, it seems really likely mcps will follow.
