At some point. When they realize they are being filmed. But hopefully by then I will have some good images of their faces. For whenever prosecutors in this town realize that we should prosecute crimes. DC turned it around once. I have confidence we will turn it around again. |
This was disheartening. Please tell me the carjacker was convicted. (Although it sounds like he wasn't.) |
We have cameras via rebate...I don't think it is view on demand "at any time"" ^. There would need to be a reason to make the request, like a crime committed in front of the house. I'm not sure why I would say no at that point, unless I was committing the crime? maybe double jeopardy would apply then? The footage is time-stamped..you wouldn't just hand it all over. "Once the cameras are installed and registered with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), officers will be able to request the video footage from their owners while investigating criminal activity that may have occurred in the vicinity of the camera. In addition, the cameras will help serve as a deterrent to anyone considering a crime against a property – like burglaries and package thefts. MPD will not have live video access to the cameras." https://mayor.dc.gov/release/mayor-bowser-launches-private-security-camera-program-part-safer-stronger-dc-initiative#:~:text=Once%20the%20cameras%20are%20installed%20and%20registered%20with,have%20occurred%20in%20the%20vicinity%20of%20the%20camera. |
There are 57 police service areas in DC. Only 6 PSAs are benefitting from this -- according to the reports, these are the PSAs with the highest car thefts. There may be other times that Ward 3 is singled out because of "equity" but this doesn't seem to be one of those times. |
It took 30+ years to turn it around. Since we’re still on the decline we have a ways to go before the 15-20 year rebuild can begin. |
It's for the poorest parts of the city and where the most car jackings are occurring. Are you telling me that you can't afford an airtag? I've had one in my car for a year. |
That's what we gave our teen who complained but is now seen as "cool" b'c she can drive a stick, roll jump start, and no one wants to steal her car -) |
NP and ward 3 resident. It’s the principle. More of the reverse- racist horsesh*t from Bowser. And don’t you dare accuse me of being a conservative MAGA because I’m not. And this is the city’s response to the 101 percent increase in car crime? What a freaking joke. |
I want my stuff out of the car, if possible. But if it’s returned to me after being stolen, I’ll see if I can retrieve what I can. After that, I’ll drop it off somewhere in a sketch neighborhood and set it on fire. Then tell cops it was stolen again and collect the insurance. The best way to deal with a system that coddles criminals is to be a criminal yourself. I can do that. |
This. 100% this. Absolutely fool proof. I guarantee no teenage carjacker in DC can drive a stick. |
