Well, because it seems like a valid one? I mean, take APS’ proposed calendar with all the religious holidays. Where do you draw the line? Which religious holidays do you recognize and why? If APS recognizes Group A, then shouldn’t you recognize Group B and C and D? If not, why not? As a community, we have to engage in line drawing which makes me uncomfortable. I would prefer to just trash the religious holidays altogether. For everyone. I don’t see this as a totally different analysis.

There is a difference between honoring Black Civil Rights activists whose contributions were ignored, and by honoring Latino student leaders. How does it work exactly? How does APS determine whether a student is Latino given that it’s a cultural/ethnic category?

It's interesting that you seem confused about the demographic information that school collects upon enrollment.

To answer your question, you check a box on the enrollment form.

Hmm so Arab heritage month is April. Are they going to honor Arab students that month? How will they know that said students are Arab? Arabs don’t check any demographic box since they are considered white.

After Catholics, largest religious group are orthodox Christians (mostly ethiopian and Eritrean) whose holidays don’t overlap with western Christian holidays. Why is APS discriminating against eastern Christianity?

As evidenced by the school boundary delay because of some big plan the academics department was unveiling, I'd say academics and planning and eval are not in sync. Looks like Planning and Eval was moving along with what they were supposed to be doing but Academics took a year to come up with - what? - essentially the same thing we have now but throw in some additional middle school extensions of the high school programs and not even suggest where they would be located. And where is facilities and transportation? Everyone was demanding a list of schools needing renovation when the planning department was considering using NES as swing space. So where was Facilities and Operations' list?
Regardless of what people thought about the previous admin with Chadwick, Nattrass, Stengle; they all at least seemed to talk with each other and work with each other to come up with their plans together rather than all this piecemeal nonsense that gets interrupted for another piece that then goes nowhere.

Oh I can tell you what DEI does. They ask schools to hold meetings and do training. They ask again. They insist, persist and demand. Repeat. And they have a department of four all doing the same. Great use of resources.
