Dr Duran’a Email - Anyone think this is weird?

Part-Irish teacher, and I will tell you that not only are we teachers not expected to acknowledge those with Irish heritage during March (or ever), those with Irish heritage aren’t whining about it.

As I said, people may not have liked them, but yes they did know what they were doing and the departments worked together. Duran's staff has expanded too broadly, is full of incompetence and/or laziness, and the departments not only do not work together - some refuse to work with the other departments or coordinate anything.

I'd say just about all of them, from it looks like from the outside.
Nobody knows what DEI office does/is doing/is supposed to do, including people I know in the other Syphax departments.
As evidenced by the school boundary delay because of some big plan the academics department was unveiling, I'd say academics and planning and eval are not in sync. Looks like Planning and Eval was moving along with what they were supposed to be doing but Academics took a year to come up with - what? - essentially the same thing we have now but throw in some additional middle school extensions of the high school programs and not even suggest where they would be located. And where is facilities and transportation? Everyone was demanding a list of schools needing renovation when the planning department was considering using NES as swing space. So where was Facilities and Operations' list?
Regardless of what people thought about the previous admin with Chadwick, Nattrass, Stengle; they all at least seemed to talk with each other and work with each other to come up with their plans together rather than all this piecemeal nonsense that gets interrupted for another piece that then goes nowhere.

They're Latino STUDENT LEADERS being honored during Hispanic/Latino heritage month. They're not just being honored for being Latino. I'm sure if they have Irish student leaders, they'd also get a shout out during their month.

Find something legitimate to worry about. This is a bad faith argument at its core. This is like if during Black History Month, Duran was honoring Black Civil Rights Activists and all you heard was the black part. It's a descriptor, not a noun.

But when exactly id Irish-American history month and does APS recognize it?

Hard no. Didn’t you know Columbus has Ben cancelled? Because people are ignorant of history and don’t know Columbus Day started as a holiday because of a mass lynching of Italian immigrants to the US and years of discrimination against immigrants, especially Italians.

People talk about leaning all of our history. Today is a chance to learn about why Columbus Day was created in the first place.

They were competent. They worked together. They showed up. They were accessible. Central office worked as a team. Despite their boss.
"The cabinet" is full of incompetent or just ignorant or just plain lazy people. They don't work together. They aren't in the office. They aren't accessible. Despite their boss? or because of him? Hard to tell.

We're having Latino speakers, musicians, dancers, and chefs come to my job for Hisp Heritage month. I could probably get all offended, but deep down I am looking forward to the food, good music, meeting Latino American vets and hearing their stories.

I love celebrations of heritage. Greek, German, Bolivian, Puerto Rican, Italian, Chinese, Italian, Irish, Persian, Polish festivals. Bring it all on.

It’s racist to minimize student achievement to one day and subset of kids. Do we really think that Hispanic kids can’t be outstanding leaders among their peers?

Wondering if Jews want to see their kids singled out as Jewish student leaders. My guess is no.
