Help me out, need to lose weight fast-ish

Haha, I love this response.

Ditch the bread and the pasta. Not only are they making gain weight, they are probably making you tired.

You definitely need to move. Do you have a dog that you can take on a walk or run? Or find a spot to walk/run up and down a hill several times. Snowshoe and cross-country ski in the winter.

OP we moved for better schools and ability to afford a house and our salaries are not a lot, we couldn’t afford DC one bedroom apartment with two kids as much as I adore DC. We do hike but everything here is driveable. Illl consider our driveway it’s long and up a hill but def still fairly in the woods ha.

Also be kind to yourself: It is really hard to work full time, have two little kids who need you 24-7, and shift from very urban lifestyle to very rural life. The bears in New England are no joke!

In the meantime, I would think about ways to make yourself feel better that don't necessarily involve weightloss, because I think the weightloss will come naturally when your life feels more in balance and like you have enough time for yourself.

I think you'd feel better if you bought a few new outfits--you deserve something newer and nicer than pregnancy wear that is probably 5 years out of style by now! Get a great new haircut. Find some time alone every day or a few times a week. Your partner needs to step it up and help you out.

OP thank you I am hoping I can walk during the daylight around our yard when kids are officially in school and daycare. I spent a lot of hours working to get promoted and in anticipation of this upcoming interview.

I don't drink, I don’t smoke, and I don’t really like treats (I do love bread and pasta). I feel like I ballooned I am back somehow in pregnancy clothes. I absolutely cannot exercise just cannot, not even walking. I live in the woods, I take care of kids, I work, and I have a small house. I am exhausted and I’m out of shape, I used to love walking in DC and miss it. Im trying to eat lots of veg and rare fruit, I skip breakfast and don’t eat after 6. I want to apply to a program and interview in person and I want to look good and feel good. Which means I have to lose weight somewhat fast. Is that even a thing? Do I just keep cutting calories or do I need to do weights in my house? Im at a loss because I feel like a teenager asking this I used to be happy with my body but now I wear ridiculous baggy clothes to not see myself. What else can I do?

Cut down and switch to light calories. Get a caloric app.

Drink lots of water.

Replace the bread and pasta with whole grains, rye crackers, apples.

And don’t finish the kids’ leftovers 😊

Bursts of exercise has really helped me- like 5-10 min at different times of the day. With belly pulled in and deep exhale when you’re doing the work. Gets heart rate up which is key. Squats with weights held behind your head and up - heck can even use canned goods. 3 reps of 5, rest anther three reps of 5. Mentally 5 is less daunting than doing 10/15. You can easily increase if you start to feel motivated. And YES to doing push ups on the stairs! Again 3 reps of 5 and build from there
Good luck!

OP thank you for these tips trying some stair walking tonight and push-ups on my yoga mat, trying to get my body to “work” and not be lazy

Lots of sautéed veggies and big salad as your first course for each meal. Follow it with protein with lots of herbs and spices.

1/2 hour before your lunch and dinner, mix 1/4 tsp of INULIN (not Insulin. Inulin is a tasteless, odorless fiber that is a prebiotic) in a glass of water and drink it.

Yoga is fine. I would say that you should walk 3000 steps immediately after each meal in your own house.

Drink a lot of lemon water throughout the day. It curbs appetite.

This. In three days it will be easy.

If you're out of shape, the first three weeks are going to suck. Don't be discouraged. Things improve rapidly after that.

Most people feel a little brain dead in the early afternoon after lunch. It's a good time to go outside and get a walk in. Also, fewer bears

OP that’s my plan I’ve been on a calorie deficit and focus but no movement and I think I need it. Kids start school and out the house officially so have booked time on calendar for a walk

OP, try eating very few carbs (less than 30g/day). It helps a lot.

Low carb or paleo + intermittent fasting.

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry about bears during daylight hours. We live in an area with a lot of bears. They don’t want to be around humans. Wear a bell and carry some bear spray maybe, but unless you smell like food they’re not going to be interested.

If you have mountain lions in your area, that’s another story.

OP not sure when kids are up at 6 and go to sleep at 8 - I clean cook prep after they sleep and then work more and then …just sleep. I can’t go outside bc of wild animals like bears and the dark woods. I don’t have the money or space for a big workout item like treadmill (small 2 bedroom home). I don’t know any other exercise but walking running biking and not sure my yoga mat and some YouTube will make a difference…? I guess I should say I can’t just go to a gym or “take a walk” at lunch.

Yoga and body weight exercises WILL help. They'll make you feel better, they'll help build muscle, they'll burn calories.

Where do you live that in August the woods are always dark and full of bears? If you are on the East coast black bears are out there, but if you make noise, the'll skedaddle. And the woods aren't so dark during the day EVER that you can't see.

Um...your little house is literally right in the middle of the woods surrounded by bears? Are you Laura Ingalls Wilder?

OP I don’t know who that is but we moved to a plus acre property in upstate New York / CT so yes, bears are an almost nightly occurrence, no sidewalks, surrounded by forests (I meant what I said, our Ring camera catches them passing or trying to eat our trash…wild turkeys and bobcats too…and it’s pitch black when it gets dark).

Do you drive your child to kindergarten? Park and put your toddler in a stroller and go for a walk while your older child is at school. Also check out Little House on the Prairie books, everyone should know who Laura Ingalls is.
