Crop tops

Yes, but I live in California and it’s extremely common.

I specifically bought crop tops for my elementary daughter because she needed them for a look she was trying to achieve. They're just clothes covering our human bodies. Wtf is there to get my feeling and morality involved over?

Yeah, I’d tell my elementary daughter to find a different “look to achieve” bc the elementary school classroom isn’t an adult fashion runway. And Crop tops and booty shorts aren’t really clothes, they’re more of a statement about the absence of clothes.

it's common here in t he DC area, too... too common.

I didn't allow it in MS, but she has now in HS. She told me that some girls in HS where nothing but a tube top.

I don't understand why admins don't enforce dress codes.

I don’t think it’s appropriate for my son or daughter to wear the fabric equivalent of a bikini to school. There are places appropriate for such clothing but I don’t think butt cheeks and abs are appropriate for school or work.

My answer is that clothes for school need to allow kids to fully participate in the school day without worrying about their clothes and whether they will inadvertently be flashing someone if they're not constantly on guard. That means all the academic parts of school, but also goofing off during breaks, and laying on the floor for a group work project, or practicing a play, or whatever. This probably means that slightly cropped things are fine, but barely-bra-length are not. At elementary level that includes being able to play at recess, so my daughter always wore skorts or leggings under skirts.

If we all think hard enough I'm sure we can all remember one or two teachers in our own past who were def pervs.

This strategy works if you have a good trusting relationship and communication with your kids. It probably doesn't work on kids who are in a phase of tuning out everything mom and dad say.

Wait wait wait wait - you are teaching your kids they have to dress a certain way to NOT make pervs actually pervs? You are victim blaming. Holy crap I can't believe you just typed this out and didn't consider yourself a terrible parent. Are there not pervs everywhere? You realize pervs don't care what people wear. Some pervs have 5yr old fetishes. Do you agree with Iran's stance on clothing and anything less for woman, they get locked up. I mean they are throwing themselves at men without their headscarf. Are all girls kidnapped only ones that have on crop tops?

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CLOTHING. You literally sound like a grandma from the 1930's. It is such an ick.

Take your medz ma'am.

There doesn't need to be an answer beyond that. Showing lots of skin is not appropriate at school. My DD has a couple of friends whose parents would let them wear lingerie to school. These girls get creeped on a lot more often than DD and her other normally dressed friends. Parents who don't put limits on their children's clothing are pretty sus. What do you get out of having your DD being the most revealingly dressed girl at school?

I tell my kids some clothes look trashy. Too short crop tops fit the bill. Too short shorts would too.

Kids are wearing Nike Pros as like, actual shorts? The short ones look like swimsuit bottoms. I always assumed they were a layering item or being worn to run outside when it’s really hot. Back in MY DAY (lol), we wore the looser fitting running shorts or Soffee shorts with a big shirt, and of course the tight but longer bike shorts have been a thing for awhile …

I mean how is this any different than what many of us wore in the 70s?

I see nothing but moms walking around in sports bras and stretch pants - all day.

but yes, girls showing their belly button is inappropriate. Way to teach girls it is their fault.

My school didn't let students dress like that at school. We dressed how ever we wanted when we went out after school and on weekends and during school breaks. How hard is it to have "school clothes" and "everything else clothes?" Some of you are just willfully obtuse, and most likely trying to live vicariously through your daughters by letting them wear the most revealing clothing that's allowed. Also there are a lot of teen girls in this thread trying their level best to pass themselves off as mothers of teens. Nice try.

I rarely see moms dressed like that at pick up, if ever. What kind of ghetto do you live in?
