Crop tops

Anonymous
My DD's school doesn't allow bare midriffs, so there are no fights about wearing them to school.

I don't ban them on weekends or outside of school. I do have the rule that they can't be so short that I see a bra or underboob. I've seen some teens wearing them so short that I could see underboob and could very clearly tell they were not wearing a bra.

I will say, I could not believe how hard it was shopping for shirts recently and finding some that were not cropped. I even ordered DD some online that didn't indicate they were cropped but they definitely were when they arrived. Very annoying.

1. You can still wear form fitting clothing so lawyers in tight dresses is a a-ok
2. No one said you could wear a crop top in court
3. We are talking about school which is FAR more casual than a court room
4. If you have issues with kids wearing crop tops in school, that is YOUR problem, not theirs.
5. Sounds like you need to send your kids to a school with a dress code

You have no idea what is professionally acceptable for lawyers to wear, definitely not form fitting clothing, makes me think you really don’t know any lawyers at all.

Parents can advocate for a dress code at their public school, it’s not a take it or leave it situation. It’s my problem because my child goes there.

The point is, kids should learn how to dress appropriately for the setting. If your view is that at school or work everything goes, then I hope you found the job that accepts you and your crop tops without any reservations.

Didn’t want to start a new thread. 10 yr old’s friends are wearing crop tops these days to weekend play dates/events. DD is not all fashion conscious but asked. I said I’d consider (had googled and found articles about wearing a cami or tee under as a look). Would that look weird? We have a certain dress code in our family and showing butt or gut is not part of it.

Yes.

She has a few that are all in the long side (ie only shows an inch of skin if she lifts her arms up) but I said no. She can wear it at home but not at school. But then a few days ago I was picking her up from a sports practice and some Middle school kids were watching - I was totally surprised that a crew of her friends were wearing really revealing crop tops. They basically looked like bras. And my DD says this is exactly how they come to school. It's completely inappropriate. Can't the schools do something?

Do what? Who cares what kids wear to school.

Do we also tell girls to cover up on the beach.

I mean stop making it seem like boys can’t control themselves and that is girls faults. Shaming women is old school sweetie

Do you go to work in crop tops often because you’re an “empowered women” and men should learn to control themselves? You totally misunderstand what the argument is about. Kids should learn what it means to dress appropriately for the occasion. Couldn’t care less about a navel showing, but I expect my child to know that what’s fine to wear at the beach might not be ok at school. Also she needs to make her own judgement, and not follow blindly some group of ‘cool’ girls at school. Also, it’s perfectly fine to not be craving boys attention at all times.

It’s all about having some basic social skills.

Nah - you keep talking about clothes like girls/woman only do it to get boy's attention which is unreal. You trying to act likes woman's clothes decide how disgusting men are going to be. Victim blaming

You need to go to a "What Where You Wearing" exhibit

And there are PLENTY of jobs wear people can wear crop tops and I have seen lawyers wear skin tight dresses that show every curve of their body and stilettos. Who cares?

I raise my family to never judge a person base on their clothes or anything else exterior about them.

What about grammar?

If this makes you sad, you should consider therapy. What a weird post.

Nah I’m not weird for thinking little girls shouldn’t be dressing sexy. It’s def helping me teach my own kids about what’s appropriate.

It absolutely is weird that you think a little girl wearing a crop top looks sexy.

She didn’t say that, moron. She said it was sad the 7 year old is dressing sexy. That doesn’t mean the 7 year old actually is sexy.

Why didn't you want to start a new thread?

Everyone is just getting triggered by the previous posts and not addressing your question.

Is my 8th grade daughter the only one that just wears normal jeans and t-shirts to school? The crop tops and Nike pros are not at all of interest or part of her wardrobe.

Then you can explain it. You can also explain that it can be impractical when they're playing, for instance.

I don't mind if DD (almost 14) wears longer crop tops (she's really short, so a lot of them fit her that way). I don't want her tops to look as short as a sports bra, and at this point in time anyway, she doesn't want to wear anything like that, either.

To be fair, we worship celebrities who break all moral codes then act bewildered why young kids want to dress and act like them.

OP your question of whether a cami or tee under crop top is a good look remains unanswered. I was curious about this thread. My kids are too young but I think it’s an odd look and defeats the purpose of a crop top.

Oops I meant PP who revived the thread.

I am from India and we have an outfit type that we wear to dance events, weddings, parties. Looks beautiful. Showing your stomach is not considered gross no matter the age. But these are form fitting outfits and have a fabric covering the chest. But I think crop tops which are loose and you can see the bottom of your boobs or bra is vulgar. I don’t let my 12 or 16 yr olds wear them. When they spend their own money they can choose to wear what they like. You asked for opinions. I think it would fine if they are wearing a tee or cami but I don’t get that look. YMMV.
