Our bodies are not bong calorimeters. |
Agreed on real.food |
I’m not convinced being overweight is all that unhealthy. -MD |
Eating the right food can heal diseases, even those deemed irreversible/incurable. |
Ultraprocessed foods (upfs) are to be avoided or severely limited at all.costs. read the ingredients and if there is anything in there that you don't stock in your kitchen, avoid it. Seed oils are also upfs. Use extra virgin olive oil but watch out for your source so you don't buy adulterated oils. Limit white flour but ear whole grains. Don't eat anything from a box that has multiple ingredients. Processed food is in degrees.. I will eat cheddar cheese but you couldn't pay me to eat kraft cheese slices or cheesy spread (like jarred queso)or powdered cheese. I would eat ho.emadw queso though.
Whole milk, full fat, butter, vegetables etc are all good. UPFs mess with our satiety signal and male us eat more. |
The real unpopular opinion here is that the people dieting by restricting calories and not losing weight aren’t restricting them far enough. |
Might not be intentional. It's incredibly hard to log accurate calories for dishes with multiple ingredients, etc. I did it for a while with myfitnesspal for fitness reasons (not weight loss) and I gave up quickly. |
Someone 25 pounds overweight who is very active is probably healthier in a number of ways than a skinny person who just does cardio (which is true of so many skinny people). That’s because the overweight person’s activity is providing better resistance work for their muscles and is effective cross training. The skinny person does probably get some health benefits of under eating though. |
Along the same lines, Crossfit is really awful for your body long term. |
Exercise is important for health and maintaining muscle, strength, and mobility and as such is crucial to a healthy lifestyle. I would include manual labor (for pay or at your own home) as exercise. But for weight loss, the key is what you are eating, and too many people are in denial about that. |
Agree. Everyone has fallen for the protein overhype. |
Friend of mine who is a GI said, few people are protein deficient in this country. But a majority are fiber deficient.
Fun fact, excess.protein is converted into glucose! |
Breakfast is not the most important meal of the day. Lunch is.

I think different people process the calories differently. Some are really efficient at it and thus need to eat less and some bodies are less efficient and thus need to eat more. Same for how the body uses the energy from food - some bodies burn it faster and less effectively than others and end up needing more energy to function. It is also not static, if you feed your body less, it will get more efficient in the processing of food and in the burning of the fuel. |
Another agree here. There are dozens of us! |
