LMAO sure, pretend this is all the machinations of "Atlanticists" and stick your head in the sand and tell yourself that it couldn't POSSIBLY have anything to do with the decades of Putin's dictatorial rule, corruption and stagnation that has left many Russians frustrated, angry and disillusioned.

Umm you don’t know anything about historical anglo posture towards Russia going back for centuries do you?

Read up on “the great game”

Us-uk cannot allow for Russia to be a regional hegemon

Heh. Given that Stalin collaborated with Hitler on the invasion of Poland, as well as the holodomor as inspiration for Hitler's holocaust, I'm not sure which "great game" you refer?

This was not a good day for Russia and the stress is showing. Even Simonyan played with fire today by admitting Russian industry has ammunition shortages and lied about it. The maximum penalty for criticizing the military forces has also been increased from five years to seven years. Even after getting interrupted by Solovyov - she has this soliloquy:

"We have to acknowledge that on the other side, there are dozens of countries that are supplying ammunition to one poor Zelensky. We should remember that we're standing alone. Every time we're outranged, publicly or privately and we want to get indignant - how can it be? Can't we get it fixed? - we should remember whom we're fighting and why."

Jesus do they not teach history anymore?

The great game was the competition between the British and Russians that dates back to the 19th century - 100 years before ww2

The British correctly assessed that a Russian hegemon cannot exist in Eurasia - it is a national security threat.

Any anglo power (Britain in the 19th. Century, us in the 20/21st century) must degrade Russian power In Eurasia any chance it gets because if it doesn’t, it risks being subsumed.

Anonymous wrote:Eh - I do not see any civil war or uprising.

I do not thinks Russians care that 100k or more of their soldiers have died or that bakhmut took longer than Stalingrad to take control over.

For the most part russians are peasants, who their rulers exploit/kill as needed and life goes on.

Only if things got really bad would they do anything about - maybe a million dead they may notice? Not 100-300k dead.
Most of the dead are from middle of nowhere Russia that the elites could care less about.

I think this is about right. I don’t agree with the peasant argument (I think Russians experienced a horrific trauma in the 90s and became too scared of its return) but otherwise I agree

I'm fairly certain that Russia's neighbors, especially those who have lived under Russian rule that don't want them to be a regional hegemon

They don’t because they are being flirted with and made believe that if they reject Russian hegemony they will live just as well as people in Western Europe.

Again, here you are to stick your head in the sand and tell yourself once again that it couldn't POSSIBLY have anything to do with the decades of Putin's dictatorial rule, corruption and stagnation that has left many Russians frustrated, angry and disillusioned.

A pro-Ukraine group has taken control of, liberated (or "liberated") a town just inside the border. Russia is calling it a group of saboteurs. Seems to be home-grown rather than a part of the Ukrainian army - so yes, a "civil war". Not very big, as of this morning.

I think it’s anything but the civil war since there is a foreign government involved.
More like treachery or treason.

No dummy, it was the Armenian genocide. The famine of the 30s was not ethnically targeted. That’s just marketing.

The USSR's Communist Party collected and stored the grain, then only ensured that Ukrainian peasants couldn't touch it, right? So technically, that's the famine's fault people died?

It's not a foreign invasion, it's home grown patriotic Russian boys, liberating the oblast from Kremlin rule toward a better and brighter Russian future

Ahh sure, it was not ethnically targeted. It just happened to disproportionately affect people by ethnicity. Riiiiiiiight.

How do you know Ukrainians were disproportionately affected? The whole Volga region was starving too

(yawn) Get a clue. No one gives a sh** and it's no justification at all for what's happening in Ukraine today. If anything, Ukraine should argue Russia owes them reparations for Stalin's holodomor.

Very true. And later Poles, Finnish, Latvian, Estonian, Bulgarian, Afghan, Iranian, Greek, and Chinese were all subject to Stalin's Great Purge.

Stalin was an equal opportunity butcher.

That was the 'stans and they're all independent countries now. Russia was trying to colonize them and Britain was trying to expand India. The same scenario had been going on with the Mughals.

It's also the same thing Russia was doing with Turkey and Iran in the Caucuses for hundreds of years. Or China in Outer Mongolia.

The simple fact is that Russia is perhaps the last colonial imperialist empire still standing. They're not playing any great game. They're just trying to colonize Ukraine.

See you are so naive. The major world powers will get together and guarantee territorial integrity for the newly independent states in return for those states giving up their nuclear weapons. Why would they not take a sweet deal like that?
