If you don’t have long legs, no exercise will make them so. -a short-legged woman |

I am the PP who said running on page 1. You can ABSOLUTELY change your legs in 6 weeks, but it takes a lot of work.
I was being lazy when I said lean - what I meant, as PPs helpfully explained, is that hard cardio and calorie counting can help trim the fat hiding your muscle. I would add serious running, stairs, and hill walking to your routine + some high quality yoga or Pilates. |
barre3 at least 3 times a week and your legs will be so much stronger
|
It mostly takes a lot of work in the form of severe calorie restriction and probably some dehydration, as well, i.e., nothing remotely sustainable. Because… why, exactly? The beach isn’t going to be any more fabulous. |
This thread inspires me to set a goal! |
Not much can be done in 6 weeks. The legs are made up of large muscle groups- they take awhile to develop. It isn’t easy to build muscle, which is what you actually want to do to achieve the “toned up” look you want. Moving up in weights is good but it takes a long time to see muscle growth especially in the large muscle groups! For context I have lifted weights for 7 years. People see me at the gym and think I look that way from ease but it took YEARS to build that muscle.
You look fine and should enjoy your vacation. Keep working out. But it’s a long haul to achieve the look you want, a years long process. You can’t achieve it in 3 months or 6 more weeks. |
Much can be improved in 6 weeks. You will have to remember you only have 6 weeks so throw everything you have at it. Low calorie, cardio, pilates type exercises, squats. |
A lot can be done in 6 weeks. But why stop there? I don't get this "get into shape for a vacation thing" and then let the pants out to go back to normal. Make the changes permanent, and if they are not sustainable, then don't do it. |
You know what’s great? You don’t need to get it! Doesn’t that feel good to just mentally allow people do what makes them feel good? You have my permission to unclench. |
I’m sorry, but did OP say she planned to stop at 6 weeks? I am really tired of people making assumptions. |
PP is actually absolutely right. I have been lifting for years, I can squat 225 and deadlift 300, while wearing a size 2 but my legs still do not look very toned simply because that is where I hold all my fat. Yes, you can change some in 6 weeks, but most of that visual change would have to come from fat loss. Noone builds visible leg muscle in 6 weeks. |
+1 There is also a difference in lifting weights for strength vs to hypertrophy. Someone can be strong without having physically larger muscles. Power lifters and body builders train differently. One only cares about strength while the other cares about size. |
