How are Hebrew Congregations organized? Do they "report" into some parent organization?

No, all Jewish institutions are more or less independent

That's scary. No accountability! How much abuse like this may be going on?

Many religious daycares are not licensed and don't pay taxes

Good to know that the criminal case is being reopened as it was sickening that the actual person who committed such crimes is still out there and possibly even in contact with kids as he has no record!

I’m glad the criminal case was reopened too. Certainly, if this happened, the perpetrator needs to be held accountable and should never be allowed near children again.

I will just comment to say that those of you condemning Washington hebrew obviously don’t know the full facts, including the steps that have been taken since the allegations came to light. Obviously the allegations are horrendous, but the assumption that nothing was done to prevent something like this from ever happening in the future or that the temple somehow condoned the conduct is based on pure speculation. This is not even remotely analogous to the rampant abuse in the Catholic Church that was swept under the rug for years.

Then how would you know they haven't been protecting this kind of abuse for decades??

It's "speculation" to believe the victims' families?

It doesn’t seem hard to publish a list of changes that were made.

Always go straight to the police with any suspicions, not the school.
Document everything going on.

Religious centers, religious daycares ARE THE WORST!! Most of them don't pay taxes, don't get any INSPECTIONS AT ALL!! Because it's in a church. It's so easy to create a religion and cheap. Religious daycares don't pay taxes!

And worse they don't care who they hire as long as they are paid low

Exactly. Those who have the greatest impact on your child’s entire future, gets paid the least. Why do you think they call it the “foundational years”?

This. Shut them all down. Take away their tax exempt status. When they are ground zero for heinous criminal acts, they are a threat to society.

I am so disgusted by this story. I had not heard it before. My heart breaks for those parents and children. I am so angry.
