SHAME on Washington Hebrew. Any person who attends needs to express their disgust at the administration. Stop giving your money. They are enablers of pedophilia and do not deserve your funds. Learn from the Catholic scandal.

Or the Baptist scandal. Or the Mormon scandal. Or the Episcopal scandal. Or the Madrassa scandal. Or the Boy Scout scandal. Or the many public schools scandals. Or the juvenile facility scandals. Lots of entities have had scandals. How many of them have instituted training, background check, grooming recognition and other abuse prevention measures along with personnel policies that essentially make an accusation all it takes to send the accused to the outer darkness? Has WH really done nothing to make a repeat incident less likely or at least more readily discovered before maximum harm has occurred?

I wonder how much the vigorous defense has to do with an insurance company perhaps controlling it. Or unrealistic demands against an entity that simply could never afford them.

If the allegations are true, well, the ninth circle of the inferno would be too easy on the perpetrator.

Why isn’t this all before a Beth Din?

How horrible. How many children were abused? How come nothing happened to the teacher?

I agree with the feelings everyone has stated.

However, I imagine Washington Hebrew Congregation is following instructions from their insurance company, nothing more, and nothing less (and likely the same for all the other organizations/institutions mentioned).

My heart breaks for all involved

And is he still teaching somewhere else? This is all just so disturbing.

+1 Similar to hospitals and the government handle negligence. None of this is surprising to me.

The criminal case is being reopened because one or more children are now old enough to testify.

This is really disturbing.

Places of worship do not deserve to continue to exist if they themselves act immorally. This temple should be shutdown for coverup, for the lack of accountability, the lack of an apology, the lack of acknowledgement, and the lack of morals that led them to attempt to discredit the victims.

+1 I agree

Cowing to the insurance company and further traumatizing the families is just not ok. They screwed up, young children were irreparably harmed. They should be shut down.

How are Hebrew Congregations organized? Do they "report" into some parent organization?

You can find the news online. There was not enough evidence to charge him.

Yes, I imagine it is hard to prove this beyond a reasonable doubt when the only witnesses are toddlers. I would love to believe it didn't happen, but it sounds like it did and WHC didn't prevent it or handle it well.
