Do not ruin some poor kid's life over what amounts to an accident from friends horsing around.

Wtf is wrong with you people?

He gave a kid a concussion… that’s serious and means it probably could have done worse.

Concussion is serious. Kid needs to at least know that parents could have gone to police. Needs to know just how serious it could have become beyond the concussion. Needs a very serious conversation.

This is a WILD response. It was a joke gone bad between friends with no history of negative interactions. It's terrible and awful for everyone involved, but it's not a police matter.

OP are the kid and the parents-

1. afraid of the student who pushed them (and if so, what other info do they have about that student?), or
2. afraid that this type of random violence might happen in school again?

They should press charges and hold admins responsible.

Where did you see that the kids are friends?

If the school is refusing to engage with the parents and explain what they are doing about this, then yes, you report the assault and threaten the school with a lawyer.

It's not about the other child - the other kid is a minor and will be subject to whatever rules the school has in place for this. The problem here is the school stonewalling.

My daughter had an incident with an abusive boy at school and the principal called me, discussed it in detail. She explained my options to me, including calling the cops. I told her I did not want to ruin a kids' life. Just tell the kid and the parents that he is to stay away from my child or next time I WILL. No further problems.

The issue here is the school.

Assault on school property is absolutely a police matter. Don’t schools have zero-tolerance policies anymore? They did when I was growing up in the 1990s.

This is OP. This is not a joke gone bad. The pusher very forcefully and intentionally shoved the kid. The kid minded his own business and did not even see the pusher coming.

The thread is not to question my involvement. It is to discuss avenues available to parents to protect kids in this scenario. All the parents want is for the pusher to stay the f away from their kid.

Ok ... so they should start by asking the school to make sure that happens. What did the school say? (And the school isn't going to tell you the consequence given to another kid, but the parents should focus on what the school is going to do to keep their kid safe)

You people are calling the police because one tween boy pushed another tween boy?

You are all that is wrong with the world.

Definitely need to contact the police and file charges. They will figure out what really happened. If the child was assaulted then the police will tell you, and then you’ll have something to take to the school so they don’t blow you off again.

Concussions are a traumatic brain injury. Generally speaking they cause memory issues, concentration issues, as well as balance and coodination issues.

If this happened in a work place, the perp would be out the door, and you'd be getting workers comp.

Why are you even involved OP?

It sounds like you are on a grudge match and trying to pressure your friend to do the wrong thing over some sort of vengeance.

It is very weird that you are posting about this situation which has nothing to do with you or your kid.

It is not her kid so she should stay out of it.

It is not her kid folks.

Both kids belong to other people.
