Back in 1993, if Tevin Campbell would’ve sung, 🎵🎶 “Can we talk?…..For a moment….Boy I want to hear your na-ame…!?”
He would have been a laughing stock. |
Well, Tevin has an opinion about the homophobia in the black community and he’s shared it with Ebony and others. |
According to Tevin, he was still dealing with homophobia in the 2000s—including recently. He’s called out black homophobia. He lived it. |
|
^^ Yes Tevin is discussing homophobia in the Black community since he personally dealt w/all of it. ^^
I think part of the reason that he has come out officially is to help other Blacks in the community who may be going through what he had to go through in the 1990’s. But why are people on this thread fighting back and forth?? It doesn’t mesh with Tevin, his situation OR his legendary music. |
^Agree. FTR, the argument started because a white person decided to proclaim that we Black people need to fix what’s wrong in our community. It’s an inflammatory and bigoted statement that’s going to upset people. To think otherwise is ignorant. ESPECIALLY when that person’s own group has its own huge issues to work through. I really respect TC coming out now to help people navigate a similar path. I will also state—again—that many of us Black people knew about his homosexuality and have supported him for decades. Black people support Black artists. I assure you TC would have been received much batter in any predominantly Black community than he would in many predominantly white ones across this country. | Eddie Murphy solicited transvestites back in the day but yet only tevin Campbell is the gay one ? |
| Yay Tevin. Happy for ya! |
Did you word this correctly? Who all are you talking about when you say "only Tevin Campbell is the gay one"? And what does Eddie Murphy have to do with Tevin Campbell and his story? |
Posters are forgetting TC was a teenage heartthrob. Teen girls were his biggest fan base so of course he was in the closet. Male artists targeting that demo still hide it today. Look at Harry Styles and Sean Mendez. They waited until they’d aged out of the teenybopper audience to become more publicly open with their sexuality. |
| ^ Whaat?? Harry Styles and Sean Mendez are both gay? |
Definitely bi. Ask me how I know |
|
It took George Michael 18-19 years to walk out of the closet that most people knew he was sheltering. More importantly he did not willingly come out of the closest of his own volition. He was outed when he was busted for soliciting sex with a man in a restroom. GM would not have been accepted as gay earlier in his career. |
He came out in 1998 and became even more famous. Elton John came out bisexual in the 70s and gay in the 80s. |
