Tevin Campbell….Officially Out Of The Closet

Anonymous
I love me some Tevin Campbell. His voice was as smooth as Luther’s was.
Even today, his songs are timeless.

Wait 🤚🏽….
Hold up!!

Luther WAS gay???!!
For real??

I seriously had zero knowledge of this fact.
Until this very second!

Luther?????????

Not that it mattered because his music alone is legendary.
But I am still trying to pick my jaw up from the floor as I write this now……

Now it is time for Ralph Carter (Good Times) to come out.

He’s been married to his wife since 1994 and they have three children. He has two children with his first wife; they were together for 10 years. I never believed those gay rumors about him.

Tevin would have been canceled before the term in its current context before he would get nominated for his next Grammy.

Imagine if in 1992 to 1994 Tevin would have been seen dating guys…..!?? Look at what happened to Ellen DeGeneres when she came out.
She lost a huge fan base and had her comedy series get canceled.
It would be unheard of today.

Tevin was right to keep his mouth shut about his sexual orientation however in 1999 (?) when he got busted for soliciting a Male hooker his secret was pretty much out then.
I recently saw him on a live podcast and he was wearing black nail polish and some of his mannerisms could have been mistaken for gay. But Pete Davidson wore black nail polish too so my gaydar is actually very amateur level. Lol.

Right, just think about all of the teen heartthrobs that were in the closet back then - Ricky Martin, Jon Knight, Lance Bass…Part of their appeal is that young girls fantasize the guys are singing to them. It’s like that classic episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air when Tevin Campbell serenaded Ashley. That fantasy doesn’t work if the singer is openly gay.
Contrast this with someone like Luther Vandross who everyone knew was gay but still loved. Women weren’t lusting after him, rather his music was perfect for couples and lovers to appreciate together, so his sexuality didn’t matter.

All those guys came out sooner than Tevin.

Tevin waited until looooong after his Tiger Beat teen days.

Oprah did a show about black men on the down low. It’s a thing. There’s a reason why black men and women are over represented with HIV.

I present facts, and the rebuttal is, “White people suck.” Whatever.

People really thought Luther Vandross was straight? C’mon ladies. He didn’t speak publicly about his sexuality but he didn’t hide it. He had that long term friend/partner that went everywhere with him that last 10 or so years of his life.

I guess if you could tell that Luther was gay, you should have figured out Barry Manilow as well.
And you should be able to truthfully know w/o a doubt that Richard Simmons is definitely gay too.

To the person who claims that Ralph Carter is married and has his own children, do you have any receipts to show??
I am looking but cannot find anything online that says this.
Thx

Why did he have so few? I really liked him too and thought he would be much more famous.

I think he might be divorced from his second wife but he was married twice and has 5 kids. I don't think there's much out there about his personal life.

Ladies and gents, this is what is meant by living under a rock in a deep, deep cave.

I'm not the poster you quoted but I disagree. It didn't even occur to me because all I really saw of him were music videos and maybe an interview here and there. There was no internet or youtube so we didn't have intimate access and details about celebrities back then.

I thought so too.
I mean he definitely had the looks + the talent to make it big.
Not to mention he had a lot of famous/talented big names in his corner.

I.e., Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Babyface, Prince….even Puffy.
But after two (?) of his first albums were massive hits - his next ones were definitely not.
They were considered flops at the time.

I guess interest in his music 🎼 began to decrease.
