Lewis and Clark, Sarah Lawrence (true, recent scandal), maybe, sorry I'm not super familiar with their locations or colleges actually located in suburbs. St. Olaf is in Northfield, about 50 minutes outside the Twin Cities. Kalamazoo is over an hour outside Lansing. Maybe Scripps in Claremont, about 40 mins outside of LA.

Thank you. She's interested in the schools near Claremont CA.

Scripps would be a target and they have some generous merit scholarships.

What are her reaches and safeties? I have a TJ grad from 2017 who had similar stats and was told to consider UVA and WM as safeties - is that still the case?

She had a bunch of T20 schools in her mind. Pitts is considered safety for all of them. WM for most. UVA not so much.

Denison is about 35 minutes outside of Columbus. Macalester is in St Paul. Occidental is in LA.

What are her reaches? Easiest to use those to extrapolate safeties/matches incl ones that give merit. For example, Case Weatern might be a good fit match if her goal college is Wash U or Tufts, and they give a lot of merit if you show real interest. No brainer than instate W&M would be a good match and UVA if she applies ED (which obviously would make it her first choice).

NP here. We visited Case Western a few weeks ago and came back disappointed. The college has a serious security problem. Lots of campus security cars patrolling all day, and the adjoining neighborhoods are not safe. I would not feel comfortable sending my kids there.

W&M just seems miserable. Why not shoot for U of Richmond if you want a school in Virginia of that size and selectivity? I know, I know, it's private, and private means more expensive, but they have a stupid, retarded high endowment and use it to hand out aid and scholarships like candy. It's such a better environment, with funner kids and stronger on-campus recruiting. Check it out!

Some of her stats: GPA (4.49 as of today), 8 AP (+4 in senior year), most rigorous coursework, national level awards, varsity sport captain, athletic award, passionate volunteer throughout high school. She prefers a small/medium sized college, no greek life, in a suburb. She's pretty much decided on her reach and safety schools but needs help on a few target schools. Any suggestions? Oh, we can't afford full pay for elite schools so she'll need some financial aid. Thanks a lot for your time!

She sounds so much like my Blair kid! Swap passionate volunteer w/ arts, and there you go. Would you get FA at the CSS schools? We also can't afford full pay at elite, but because we are under $150K AGI, we got financial aid from the targets and reaches she was accepted to because they used the CSS. Targets were Vassar and Wesleyan. She had 2 safeties that had a lot to like about them, so the rest were reaches.

Thank you for your reply. Yes we would get FA at the CSS schools. May I ask what were the reaches she got accepted to with FA?

Dartmouth, Brown and Northwestern. FA was good at all 3 (40-45k efc). FA was best at Wesleyan. Vassar was about 47k. All beat the net price calculator for us.

How about:

Colorado College
Pomona/Claremont McKenna
Williams
Amherst
Bryn Mawr
Haverford
Strathmore
Boston College

Williams, Amherst and Strathmore are reaches for everyone. As are Pomona/Claremont

Ugh, “funner” and “stupid retarded,” really? Is this meant to be satire?

Sounds a lot like my DD, though we can afford it and feel it's appropriate to do so (not going for merit etc.). In her case, very cause-driven with national publications and NGO / Hill work instead of the athletics.

Targets were HSLACs, and she has no patience for Greek / Bro Culture. Applied to ten schools, including two ivies, three HSLACs, a couple of seven sisters schools and a couple of safeties along with a wild card (St. Andrews). Admitted to seven, including one ivy. Selected Bryn Mawr and very, very happy about it.

Those are all safeties, not targets for TJ student with her GPA. You should be able to see on Naviance that there are some schools at your DD's GPA where it's almost all green.

I recommend on her Common App that she says she's interested in majoring in a STEM subject (math, CS, whatever her grades/coursework support) and a humanities subject. Colleges still are hungry for STEM girls.

Women's SLACs (Bryn Mawr, Holyoke, Smith) are targets. Wellesley is a target/reach - they do like high stat TJ STEM students.

SLACs like Bates, Colby, Haverford, Kenyon, Oberlin would be targets. Williams & Amherst are harder to get into, but not impossible - they like TJ kids a lot.

Definitely have her apply ED to whichever school she decides upon.
