We are #8 on waitlist for 1st grade at Sligo. Seems like that puts us in range but I really have no idea! Second round invitations should be by end of May? |
What do you mean by second-round invitations? |
Not that I've seen. But as a data point, pre-COVID I had a kid draw a number in the 700s for RCF |
Those who have won a spot via lottery have 5 days to accept. Then they start going to the waitlist. |
They're not very quick about sending out second-round invitations, from my experience. They seem to send those out closer to the end of summer. Sucks I know, but just so you know that checking your email every minute in case the invitation comes in might only serve to drive you crazy |
| FYI: We received an invitation this year to Rock Creek Forest Elementary, and a response is required by May 13. I've heard from friends that got in off the waiting list last year that invitations are made at frequent intervals as people accept and decline... so at least anecdotally, it seems there is movement before the end of the summer! |
I'm curious as to how the waitlist works (moves) for the 1st grade? |
You're on it. If a kid moves over the summer, they call the next person on the waitlist. That's when most movement will happen. But if a kid leaves in December, they will still attempt to fill the spot. One of my neighbors changed to French immersion two months into 1st grade. |
SCES went up to #5 on the wait list my child's year (pre-covid) and I absolutely echo others in saying that you shouldn't expect the next round to go out yet. Remember that they are dealing with other priorities but also that folks are going to appeal because they think their sibling preference wasn't weighted correctly or whatever. All of those appeals need to be solved before they offer more seats. |
| Any chance for a #10 to get in 3rd grade? |
We have two children in the Maryvale program and one who graduated from the program and is now at GMS for middle school immersion. We have loved the program. Both the K teachers are wonderful. Like any school or program, some teachers are amazing, some are good, and some are just okay. In our experience, none are have been bad. It is a great program and we highly recommend it. And, fwiw, neither I nor my spouse speak French. |
| If I haven’t heard back yet should I be worried? |
By heard back, do you mean your lottery results? |
| Yes, still no lottery results |
I would check your junk mail; as the results were sent Monday. I believe they send them, all at once. |
