I make everything myself incl salad dressing, plain yogurt etc. I eat 3 square meals and don't snack unless it is Fri night. I do eat dessert if I'm out at restaurants, which is once a month. I don't drink alcohol or soda or fancy coffee drinks. But I do have cream in coffee etc just no sugar. I avoid white flour unless I'm having pizza once a month. I cook a fair bit. I am pescetarian. I eat seafood once a week and the rest of the week is non fish, vegetarian. I walk 2 miles 5 days a week, briskly. It's 90 percent diet 10 percent exercise. I do have a weakness for chocolate and will enjoy a piece or two a couple times a week. I am not on meds, and go to doctor once a year. He's always surprised at the fact that I don't have hbp etc BC most people our ago do have something.

Have you ever worked?

LOL I'm 5'6 and 184. I run 3 X a week for 30 minutes and walk with my husband for 30 minutes daily. Of course, I actually like food and alcohol. Pasta, simple carbs.

I have to remind myself to eat lunch, for example. I’ve realized at 6pm while cooking dinner that I haven’t eaten at all the entire day. It’s not healthy at all. I have alarms set to remind myself to eat. If you put a piece of cake in front of me, I’ll devour it, but I wouldn’t think to get it myself. I just don’t have hunger cues.

I cannot relate. Whatsoever.

You like vegetables more than spaghetti carbonara?

I can't remember the last time I had fast food, though I'm happy to have pizza, maybe once a month. But I think the big reason I stay slim is I almost never overeat. My DH struggles with overeating so I think about this often. I really think he has a brain chemistry problem. He gets so much pleasure from overeating. I just don't.

Yes, I love eating a lot. You call it overeating. I call it being Italian. What is better in life than food and good wine to go with it?

People that are truly slim naturally and “eat what they want” don’t want to eat the same things and the same amounts that those who struggle with their weight do.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Spot on. I had a naturally thin roommate who ate ice cream every night. But her serving of ice cream was different than mine and she wasn't going back for a second scoop. She also ate whatever she wanted at meals and was a fabulous cook, but again when she ate she always stopped when she was full and almost always left food on her plate.

Everyone wants to believe that thin people have higher metabolisms, or do some special workouts, but in reality they are just really good at self moderation. Sure exercise plays a roll in weight maintenance, but diet is the much bigger factor.

(It is actually a known thing that thin people have faster metabolisms and just generally different digestion, a different mix of hormones like leptin and a different set of microbes. It’s not just portion control or self moderation.)

No you don’t get it,.. real naturally slim people eat what they want. The huge difference is that they truly don’t want the same thing and they truly don’t have the same hunger cues as you, they know when they ate enough whereas you can eat a bit more thanenough to be satiated, or you can eat for emotional reasons etc..

That’s the only way to end the diet cycle… reframe what you want. Not easy but doable. At 40 I am finally there and I wasn’t there at 20

I think this is true. I do basically eat what I want and I remain slim. Sometimes healthfully, sometimes pretty terribly. Mostly during the pandemic it has been terribly - but I do go through phases where I eat well in the spirit of trying to be healthy. In the past I have worked out regularly, currently am not. It doesn't have much of an impact on my overall size - maybe 5 pounds maximum? Two kids, baby weight fell off without any effort aside from breastfeeding (which some people say prevents them from losing). I look/feel healthier with better lifestyle choices, but my weight just doesn't change much. I'm also only 40, so I know this could change, but my mom has always been similar.

If I eat a lot one day, my appetite is a lot less the next, and I eat less naturally. I never count calories. (If I intentionally wanted to lose 5 pounds, I would have to count calories or exercise with intention.) I do snack, but only if I'm hungry (so if I have large meals I don't feel like snacking typically). I've been around people who have more struggles with their weight, and they just seem to be hungry more frequently, and eat bigger portions, etc.

"I just don't get hungry or think about food much until dinner time."

THIS is the difference between someone who can manage their weight naturally and those of us who can't. I wake up hungry. I can eat a large breakfast and be hungry 2 hours later. Not just "my mouth wants food, I love sweets" but my stomach is empty again hungry. Maybe it's not empty, but that's the message my body and brain are sending me. I get cranky and sometimes shaky when I haven't eaten in 5 hours. I can't fathom people who just don't feel like eating breakfast or just eat a yogurt cup and are fine until lunch. Im not obese, but I work hard to stay at a size 8 and it can creep up to 10 if I eat intuitively. But I hate thinking about food as often as I do. Im jealous of those people who just don't get hungry much!

I am fairly slim at 49 (115 pounds, average height). I am legitimately hungry every 2 or 3 hours. I have never forgotten to eat a meal. I don't think snacking is the devil and I am often thinking about food. I can't eat "whatever I want" though since my natural tendency is to want "snacks" comprised of 600 calories of fat and sugar. But there aren't really any foods that I restrict except ultra-processed foods and things with a lot of added sugar. I could never live on smoothies, protein powder, salads, chicken and fish.

I do an hour long brisk walk most days (5 miles), spend about 10 minutes on half-assed strength training a few times a week and eat more or less constantly. But if I don't eat when I'm hungry, I do end up losing weight so I assume my hunger cues are real.

The issue with your question, as with all the million exact same questions here, is that whatever I want to eat means something different to me and to you.

Are you small boned? I am 5’7” and when I am 150 I look gaunt.

51 years old, at my heaviest now around 118lbs. I think about the food constantly. I cook, I plan and want to eat what I want to eat. I eat candy and sweets. Just had two slices of apple pie(from Costco) and chicken let quarter for breakfast.
But, I also did not have lunch for 2 days at work. I am happy to wait to eat what I want and like.
I am obsessed with food, in the best sense possible.

That’s what I eat too. Only pasta, bagels, cereal, eggs, bacon and pasta sauce.

Why LOL? My dd was hyperthyroid and dropped to 135 at 5’7” and was scary thin. When I hugged her I could feel all her bones. I can’t imagine her at 115.
