| MIT versus Caltech: which one would you choose for DC who got into both EA? |
MIT of course |
My DS had this option. He chose MIT. Benefits include: better location in a cool city with public transportation; more balanced gender ratio, more options of majors in case he were to change his mind, easier access for trips home and for parents visiting, great restaurants nearby, amazing internship opportunities(although Caltech might have those also). It was an easy decision and a really wonderful experience for him. |
Can they visit both and decide? Caltech is smaller with a very tight student body. Some kids prefer that and some prefer the larger experience. Also, California versus Boston. Congratulations to your child! |
We chose MIT. If your DC is very confirm about going the academia route (PhD and then professor), MIT and Caltech can be a debate. Otherwise, it should be MIT. Something DC like about MIT: Larger school with potential to social/network with a lot of people The work hard and play hard culture. DC is having a blast so far, having a lot of fun while also working hard. Very supportive and highly active entrepreneurial culture if that's your thing. Arguably the best recognized brand name. Most of the programs rank #1 in the world and the rest are in top 5. |

| My DD told me that she knows of 5 kids from her school who got into MIT EA. Is that common? |
Not if it's from TJ. But TJ had 9 this year. |

Given the cost, surely it is a family decision. |
