MIT EA

To make it less harsh for those kids. They’re really rejections.

That's why I like Stanford. They only defer like 10 percent of EA applicants and reject the rest who aren't admitted. Harvard and MIT defer a ridiculously high number. It's not less harsh for the kids, it gives them false hope for no reason.

Accepted.

1600/3.99 unweighted 4.61 unweighted. Public high school. 14 AP classes.

DD is white and athletic (in response to above poster) varsity track /cross country. Student Body President, winner of a couple National art awards (she wants architecture) 300 plus community service hours. No hooks. She just got lucky. And wrote really great short essays.

3959 rejected (27%)

9489 deferred (64%)

697 admitted (4.7%)

Doesn't add to 100%, some people withdrew or switched to RD

are these the stats for this year EA?

Yes they are

Could it also be that they didn’t have enough time to review all the applications in detail and need more time?

Know 2 high stats kids got deferrals, 1570 SAT both, super high GPAs. One has a ton of APs and captain of debate team. The other high IB and international traveler w a niche sport (although not a recruited athlete). One male and one female, one mixed race and another Asian.

DS got deferred last year as well then denied during RD. He is now at another highly respected CS school, on par w MIT. So don’t be discouraged if your students didn’t get the news they wanted today. It will all work out and they will have no regrets.

Brava! The stakes are high… lots of super qualified applicants. Be proud that your girl stood out.

Mine for deferred today. I keep reminding them that the universe is perfect.
