Also isn’t that what the GoodNites are? Bigger sized diapers. |
Yeah, they are but the ones that have tape fasteners do a better job. They say over 45lbs, but with how much stretch they have I don’t think he’d have any trouble with them. |
+1, mine was a super-soaker, only thing that didn’t leak were Pampers |
| OP I think you're getting good advice here. My son is now 14 but was wet nightly until 11-12. We saw Dr. Kalloo at Children's who suggested dietary changes (constipation is often the culprit, and even if they poop every day they can be constipated). It's exhausting and lots of laundry, but he WILL outgrow it. The very best thing you can do is just ensure he's not embarrassed. We used to "double make" the bed with 2 sets of waterproof mattress covers/fitted sheets, so when he leaked (which was most nights) we just took the wet layer off and he could go back to sleep quickly. The alarm didn't work - he slept through it so it was too late. Stay patient and hang in there. This too shall pass. |

At 9, you can try to put alarm to wake up at 4 am and rouse him from sleep and take him to the bathroom. Do it for a month and his body will be trained to get up to pee at that time.
As a parent, its on you to do this so that your kid is not embarrassed. Otherwise, you can continue to make him wear diapers and have waterproof bedding.... |
My DS was a very heavy sleeper. We tried getting him up middle of the night but that didn’t do much. He’d still wake up wet half the time. It’s a normal part of growing up. Be patient. |
My DS used them for a month after surgery. He’s tall, but very skinny. Really surprised that baby diapers still worked, but they held up. |
yep XL they are size 14-20 or up 150+ pounds |
Those are big enough to fit most adults. If he’s only 75lbs you need something better fitting. I’ve heard people swear by the Target brand. |
OP here- thank you very much, really appreciate this advice and reassurance. |
| For those recommending diapers vs the GoodNites that we’re using now, can you share brand/type? I had only seen diapers up to size 6, with the tape fasteners. |
Most of them come in a size 7. I’ve seen a lot of stores like Walmart, Target, and Sam’s Club carry their own brand. We use Pampers Cruisers, but I think just about any of them should work. Does it matter to him at all what he’s wearing for bed? I always figured since it’s only at night and nobody else is going to see them anyway it doesn’t really matter much as long as the bed is staying dry. |
| This is encouraging and helpful - thanks for posting OP. Mine are nearly 8 and 5. Both DH and I wet the bed for a long time. Eventually we grew out of it. The 8 year old was diagnosed with ADHD and I think the 5 year old is on the same path. |
Both still have nighttime accidents? It’s more common than a lot of people realize. Normal part of growing up. |
| My DD wet overnight until she was 9.5. Her mother and uncle did as well. It’s genetic in her case. Her body wasn’t able to consistently get through the night dry until she was 9.5 and she never had an accident again after that. Unless the child has other symptoms or difficulties, just wait it out. It will stop eventually. |
