I was a teacher before constant training was offered/required. I don't understand the need for so much training. My opinion: it is to justify all the people who work in higher headquarters. They have to justify their existence.

Is it really worth the expense and disruption?

+1. Subs have been underpaid in certain districts for close to a decade. The chickens are coming home to roost. Some school systems pay subs a premium to sub on the days before breaks because so many people take off. It wouldn't surprise me if the same thing happens in FCPS.

Well, the government has been dumping money on people for the past year and now it’s like, gee why doesn’t anyone want to work? Idiocy.

LOL @ Ziegler thinking his email about “I ordered principals to deny leaves during that November week” trying to flex.

Very telling to see these folks not owning their mistakes (ie who thought that week was good in any way?)

Now we have a whole 10 day break in November just 3 weeks before thankgsvining. Ha ha ha

As a sub, I agree. 99% of my subbing is for training, not teacher absences. As a parent, I find it appalling the kids miss so much instructional time. The subs don’t actually teach (I would, but that is not the plans I am given.)

The only time I will teach is if the teacher knew I was going to be there way ahead of time.

If they can’t staff the schools I’m not sure what else they can do short term.

I’m the PP and the teachers know I will be there weeks ahead of time. They still don’t leave actual material for me to teach. The students work on projects, or do reading comp, or write stories or whatever. I’m definitely not teaching any new content, even though I’d be more than happy to.

According to my neighbor, who is a teacher, because of the weird way the days off fell that week, tons of teachers requested the whole week off.

Yes, but the were told they couldn’t have those two days off (3rd and 5th.) Why leave was granted I have no idea, it wasn’t supposed to be.

My mom's position was outsourced overseas in June 2020. It just so happened that it all coincided with the pandemic and getting the extra unemployment. Even with the extra $$, it only came out to be around $2400/month. That's a drop in the bucket in this area.

My brother is a brewery GM. His boss, the owner, kept saying "wait until September when the free money ends! We'll be overflowing with applications for work!" Guess what? It's mid-October and they still have the same staffing shortage that they've had for over a year. The same staffing shortage that everyone around them has that has caused a reduction in hours at most places.

Why would someone want to bust their a$$ working as a waiter during a pandemic for uncertain $$ when they could get a job with the county health dept. as a contact tracer for $15-20/hour.

If a person arranged a sub ahead of time could they still use the leave?

I don't think they can deny sick leave requests. All a teacher has to do is schedule an appt that day, and then they can take the whole day off.

Well yes this is the problem. Personal leave has to be approved but sick leave does not.

Is Diwali a new Holiday on the LCPS calendar? FCPS almost added it than backed off to an O day which is basically nothing new can be taught. LCPS week at Disney.
