My thoughts are that they need to raise the wage for subs.
+1. Subs have been underpaid in certain districts for close to a decade. The chickens are coming home to roost. Some school systems pay subs a premium to sub on the days before breaks because so many people take off. It wouldn't surprise me if the same thing happens in FCPS.
Well, the government has been dumping money on people for the past year and now it’s like, gee why doesn’t anyone want to work? Idiocy.
My mom's position was outsourced overseas in June 2020. It just so happened that it all coincided with the pandemic and getting the extra unemployment. Even with the extra $$, it only came out to be around $2400/month. That's a drop in the bucket in this area. My brother is a brewery GM. His boss, the owner, kept saying "wait until September when the free money ends! We'll be overflowing with applications for work!" Guess what? It's mid-October and they still have the same staffing shortage that they've had for over a year. The same staffing shortage that everyone around them has that has caused a reduction in hours at most places. Why would someone want to bust their a$$ working as a waiter during a pandemic for uncertain $$ when they could get a job with the county health dept. as a contact tracer for $15-20/hour.
