How do you explain the chatter about thanksgiving week being also asynchronous?

That chatter exists here only. Nobody in my school has mentioned it at all.

Now that ACPS has called it, other districts will follow suit.

Start planning for it now, Loudoun parents.

I posted 5 days ago about the chatter. Once again you laughed. Once again here you are. Make plans for childcare. We are getting that week off too from school.

It still hasn’t been called. I think they’re just gonna blend classes and put kids in the auditorium to watch movies if they have to. I realize ACPS has called it but they didn’t call the 2 days next week Loudoun had to . Mostly you’re just stirring up drama.

That would violate multiple covid protocols at my DD's elementary school.

Loudoun doesn’t have any Covid protocols besides wear a mask and even that’s debatable. Our ES has assemblies.

Not the case at our school. Our elementary school has assigned seating everywhere. My Kindergartener sits at the table with the same 3 other kids in class, at lunch, at, library, etc. The thought behind this is that it reduces the number of children who will need to be quarantined if there's a positive case. They appear to be podded up with the same 4 or 5 kids for every indoor activity.

I am a sub at several elementary schools. All claim to be doing what you say in theory, in practice its just not really happening. Kids move about the classroom, wander over to talk to friends (maskless) at lunch, or while standing in the lunch line, especially the young kids CANNOT keep their distance or stay in their seat on the carpet in the classroom, libary, etc. Also many kids can't or won't keep their masks on.

Same at our middle school. In fact the most frequent all staff emails we get are reminders to update our seating charts if we make changes.

It doesn't do much good in middle school given that students have 8 classes with different kids. Its not like they sit next to the same 2 kids in each class. Also, there are hallways, bathrooms, band/chorus (maskless), etc.

LCPS staff got an email yesterday that to entice subs they’ve finally figured out they have to pay more. Subs who pick up at least 25 days get additional pay for every day they work beyond the 25. And subs who pick up high volume days get paid like $231/day. The list of high volume days included the 2 before Thanksgiving, the last Friday before winter break, and any Friday before a 3 day weekend. So no, I do not think the DCUM chatter of “they’ll close all Thanksgiving week” is going to materialize. They’re actively implementing enticements to try to ensure there’s coverage for those days and others.

What's the pay for the people who pick up 25+ days? And which days are high volume? Asking from FCPS, where $231 more than you make in two days as a sub.

The pay after 25 days is $169.

The high volume days are the 2 days before Thanksgiving break, the last day before winter break, and any Friday or Monday abutting a holiday week, and any Friday abutting a 3 day weekend. Maybe some random assorted days too, they posted a bunch of dates out through May.

Damn. That's more than I make daily as an IA in FCPS.

Ok I actually went back and read the email again and I got numbers mixed up.

Once you hit 25 days the daily pay goes up to $133. Apparently before that it’s $112. The $169 is the high volume day. However, for site based subs or long term subs, it’s $231(!!) on high volume days.
