SATC New Season - And Just Like That...

We already had two main characters—Carrie and Samantha—talk about their abortion experiences. We don’t need a third main character to go through that. I think a lot more women of LTW’s age related to getting unexpectedly pregnant at an advanced maternal age, feeling conflicted but deciding to keep it, then losing it. In fact, there have been numerous threads about that on DCUM.

It is probably the most realist outcome, at her age.

99% of unwanted pregnancies on TV shows magically end in miscarriage rather than abortion. It's such a cowardly and tired storyline.

This is really unfair given that SATC gave two out of its four main characters abortion histories. Also, “Women older than age 35 have a higher risk of miscarriage than do younger women. At age 35, you have about a 20 percent risk. At age 40, the risk is about 40 percent. And at age 45, it's about 80 percent.” Giving her a full-term pregnancy at her age is the least plausible storyline. The actress who play LTW is 52. Not sure how old her character is supposed to be.

Is she really 52? Wow - I thought she was a decade younger.

I really liked this week's episode. Che, of course, is the effin worst - if you're going to be that un-self aware about what a d**k you are, at LEAST be funny.

Loved Nya's response to the pregnancy.

I really felt for Aiden and Carrie. I think it's clear they are going to have to split - I mena, it was clear from the beginning, but now we see why; it's because Aiden is a good person and Carrie is also a good person, so neither of them is going to push for him to not be there for his son. It's kind of heartbreaking. It's actually heartbreaking! But maybe - I didn't come up with this - Miranda will move in with Carrie and they can each have at least one bathroom to themselves.

I don't know - am I crazy or has this show gotten good? I liked Charlotte's storyline this week, too!

Since when? She has always been insanely self absorbed and shallow.

The show has really improved this season. Bummed there's just one ep remaining!

She's a good friend who's kept a circle of good friends for decades. She has been there for her friends, just like they have been there for her. She's a human being who - like all human beings - cares more about her own life than anyone else's. But I think we've seen her behave with integrity, even if she hasn't always made the decisions we would choose for her (or for ourselves).

And I think there is zero chance she is going to ask Aiden to ditch his kid to spend more time with her. Do you think she will?

If Rosemarie DeWitte is playing Aidan’s ex, no way is it a one-minute one-off.

Carrie really doesn’t seem like the Gramercy Park type, and neither does Aidan. Agree Lisette will be in the apartment until Carrie inevitably moves back in. I really hate the Aidan storyline, so obviously rushed and headed for disaster ugh.

Ok, prediction for finale: Aidan has a troubled son, who starts acting out, ends up in crisis, and he has to choose between his family and Carrie (obvious choice). While he is struggling and torn, Carrie is in pain reaches out to Samantha, who bestows upon her whatever words of wisdom. They break up, amicably. But where will Carrie live??

Nailed it! But not sure if Samantha phone call will be about Aidan or the end-of-the-era apartment goodbye. I know KC and SJP don’t want to be in the same room but no way RL Samantha would have missed the big goodbye dinner. She would gave hopped on a plane for sure.

Yes, it was more intense than I expected. Shocking, actually. Obviously Aidan is going to have put the kibosh on the NYC trips and it would be awkward for Carrie to spend too much time in "Norfolk" with a troubled kid who hates her. Pretty obvious outcome here, but they'll leave open Caidan as the end game for the finale.

It had to be intense for it to be believable that Aidan would break up with her when he pined for her for so long.

Agree. As some of us have been saying, it will be amicable but very sad.

I wonder if writers will succeed in making her dating life interesting after this. The pre-Aidan scene when Naya and Seema were being hit on at a bar and Carrie pulled out her book was pretty funny.

Nya is hot. She was also in a good place to have a hot sexual relationship with no other strings attached (though seems like that's about to change). She also has a really nice apartment. It doesn't seem like a wild stretch of the imagination that a younger guy would find all that appealing!

She's also brilliant by the by. Some men are actually impressed and turned on by that.

Not PP and I agree that she is attractive, but her character is fairly underdeveloped on the show, and I am having trouble getting into her storyline. They need to do more with her.

Oh, for SURE. She also seems totally off on another show from the other characters. Like Seema is there having dinner with the main crew - and her only real contact is that Miranda is living in her apartment, at this point.

I do feel like I know who she is - they've drawn a character who feels familiar - but her storyline is so small and so separate from everyone else. Maybe she'll get drawn in more now that she's going to go through an emotional crisis.

Well Miranda is the only well-educated one in the group, so I can see why it's difficult to integrate Naya with the others who talk about little other than boys and materialistic crap. Miranda's social cluelessness was endearing though, and the disconnect between her professional success vs dating life mistakes was the foundation of many of her storylines. Even if Naya is sad about her divorce, she's a confident and successful woman, so then what?

Charlotte is quite well educated - I think she went to a top private school and undergrad and she had a high profile job in the art world and just got back into that. They don't let just anyone off the street sell crappy art to Sam Smith.

You don't have a leg to stand on when the original SATC tackled abortion with two of its most beloved characters talking about their experience. Samantha and Carrie had abortions. It was discussed. Miranda very nearly had one, to the point where she was in the office. There is nothing "cowardly" about TWO main characters having abortions, and TWO OTHER main characters thinking about the possibility.

THE ACTRESS WHO PLAYS LTW IS ***52 YEARS OLD.*** If you don't think this storyline was handled realistically, you are denying the reality of the aging process.

Agree. That was especially weak for a show that’s been extra blatant about addressing all things gender.

An abortion or her having the baby with reservations and the impending doom on her life and career would have made more sense here.

Good point, she just doesn't come across as well educated outside of an art gallery.

You are crazy if you think a character played by a 52-year-old actress was not extremely likely to miscarry an unplanned pregnancy.
