Either way, solidifies what a good pick Tim was.

Over the immensely accomplished Senator Mark Kelly? Not seeing it.

Mark is great but he’s not a better pick. They are similarly fabulous but Mark would have cost us a senate seat.

Can't afford to lose a single senate seat - and by the way I hope Walz will go help Jon Tester out with some rallies, I think Walz will play well in Montana.

Why? If Kelly steps down to become VP, then Democratic governor Katie Hobbs would appoint a person to fill the vacancy until the seat was reelected in 2025. The filing deadline to file for Senator was April 1, 2024. So, announcing in July 2024, means that the appointee would serve until the following year general election, e.g. November 2025. Governor Hobbs' appointee would be seated with the 119th Congress in January 2025.

Sorry, correcting the tenses in my post.

I love Mark Kelly but Walz is genius at speaking in all sorts of situations. Kelly doesn’t quite have that gift.

+1 I think this is his biggest weakness. He's not agile or charismatic when speaking.

I liked Kelly as well but he just does not have the it factor that they need this year

I’m another Mark Kelly fan and even have friends from AZ who were friends with Gabby. But let’s be real — Arizona does not have a deep bench on moderate Dems so Hobbs would becchallenged in picking someone that could win the seat for real. If the R had put up someone that was not super crazy and unlikely, Gallegos would be in trouble. Even with Krazi Lake, that seat is not guaranteed for him (send him $$!).

And I agree with other posters that Kelly is just not the charismatic speaker that Walz is. Gabby was the natural politician in that family and Mark really only got into it to fulfill her legacy, I think. He’s doing a great job but the political glad handing and speeches is not his natural state of being.

for those complaining and (falsely) asserting that Harris didn't pick Shapiro because he was Jewish...

Can we move on from that BS talking point now?

Considering it’s Republicans trying to sow division, no, they will not move on from that point.

Currently there is a social media thing going around that Walz was not an actual high school coach when his high school won 1999 football championship, just coached a 9th grade non-varsity team. Yet the NYT has actual video from the game.

IIRC he was the defensive coordinator when they won the state championship. He probably also coached the 9th graders.

The excessive precision of every sentence they require from a Dem is laughable. It’s desperate in any case but especially coming from the party that supports someone as deceitful and inarticulate as Trump.

Trump supporters are well known sticklers and precision.

Dammit. “Sticklers for accuracy and precision.” Guess I fail!

You missed the word “excessive”.

GOP simply throws whatever they can against the wall and sees what sticks. Facts or common sense be damned.
