FCPS parent here. Based on their performance the last several years, Battlefield deserves to be scheduled by more FCPS teams at this point. Would be good to see them play a couple of Region D teams a year if they can sustain their recent lacrosse strength. Madison and Oakton certainly don't shy away from scheduling tough non-conference games, including top privates. Bring on the Bobcats.

What I find interesting is that in the last 2 years, other than Centreville, the almighty Concorde district teams have been the ones not scheduling Battlefield in the regular season. The Bobcats scheduled the top teams in the Liberty (Yorktown, Langley) and Patriot (Woodson, Robinson, West Spring), but only Centreville from the Concorde. Madison, Oakton, South Lakes, where you at?

We will see how it all works out tomorrow.

Madison and Oakton played one “tough” non-conference game each last year. Madison got crushed by SJC in a pre-season scrimmage (lost by 10) and Oakton barely squeaked by SSAS in OT. Both teams could / should schedule more games with other top teams in their backyard (SR, Visi, GC, etc.). Doubt they will bec they want to maintain strong season records.

Coach Counts was trying to work in a game against Battlefield for past 2 years. Our schedules didn’t sync but both teams have tried. Coach Oliver has always been supportive of our program as are we to his program. I’m sure Oakton v Battlefield will be on the schedule next year.

Not accurate. This season, Madison played both SSAS, a perennial power, and Potomac, who had a good year including beating SSAS and is a program on the rise, in addition to scrimmaging SJC. Last year, Madison played both SSAS and St. Annes-Belfield, also a top private program in the region. Check your facts.

"Strong season records" are not super-relevant with the Districts and Regions format in VHSL, but testing yourself against top competition is.

Further, a public school, which can't recruit, "barely squeaking" by SSAS is a major accomplishment. One of the signature wins of Oakton's outstanding season.

Potomac isn’t a tough team (not top ten anyway). And it doesn’t change the fact that there are many top teams VA publics could play if they wanted to - and haven’t. Point made was that Oakton and Madison “certainly don’t shy away from scheduling tough non conference games, including top privates” which isn’t factual. Oakton only played one this year and barely beat ‘em. That is also a fact.

Nice try digging out. Let me know when you find another Virginia public that has beaten SSAS in modern history. And let me know when you find another public routinely scheduling more tough games outside of district than Madison.

For good measure, you should watch Potomac the next couple of years. They lost a key senior, but have a great core of rising Juniors with strong '26, and a great '27 class on the way.

No digging - just being factual, which you asked me to check. Facts still contradict the statement that Madison and Oakton “don’t shy away” the “top privates.” Just isn’t true. You can think it’s true, but sorry pal - that doesn’t make it true.

(1) StAB is not "in the region".
(2) Beating Saints is a huge accomplishment and one that hasn't been achieved by a NoVA public school in my memory.
