Anyone watching Mare of Easttown?

If his ex wife suspected he'd had an affair with one of his students - that might have been plenty to send her away. Unless of course it was her and this is a deflection.

I still don’t see why Dylan would disappear in the middle of the night or why he would hide the journals. What was he doing at 2am? Why hide the journals? He didn’t seem like he cared about her very much so doesn’t seem like it was for her protection.

So do you think the ear surgery money was blackmail money from John?

I also think it’s Lori. She said she still loves him (John) even though he cheats and can’t stop loving him.

He hid the journals because he assumes or knows there is something bad about him in there. It's not that deep.

I think she was blackmailing Billy, not John. After all, she didn’t end up escorting.

Yeah, I guess so. But they seemed very happy initially. Just thinking that even if she had doubts, it would take her some time to figure out what to do. Moving out quickly and cutting contact makes it seem like she had reason to not trust him and there’s more to the story.

I keep reading people saying Lori is involved. I really hope not. Mare isn’t a bad person, and I don’t want her to lose her support system.

One issue I have with the Lore/John theory:

1. If they just committed a murder together, why the scene of the two of them with him moving out after an affair? If they were busy covering up a murder, would that ever really happen?

I think the son's suicide was either murder or he was pushed into by the boys that burned the journals. They were either all in on something together or he found out & they killed him. burned the journals to cover it up.

I think it has something to do with the gun used in the murder. The police chief hinted that Mare's dad would have an old gun like that, so maybe the murder weapon came from her own house. The son might have stolen it and then sold it to the other kids for drug money.

Dylan is hardly 18, her son died a few years ago. I doubt D had anything to do with it.

What is the timeline on son's death? I thought it was like 2 years ago? How long has Drew been living with Mare? He is 4?

The boys who would have been 14 years old at the time, opposed to his being early 20s? Give me a break.

You realize this is TV right? Also it is a limited series, that means no season 2 to pick up the story...

Mare stills seems likable after being surrounded by people dumping on her and telling her they hate her all the time like her son and his girlfriend, Siobhan, even her own mother. Why is everyone so hard on her?

Why the snark? I'm pretty sure that lots of people pick characters they like/don't like, are rooting for and are not rooting for. There are outcomes we want for certain characters and don't want for others...

In no way does that mean we aren't aware it is fiction.
