College and University Discussion
| meritocracy based on what? maybe that poster wants to only fly on planes designed by great test takers but I sure dont. |
You’d prefer to fly on a plane designed by a random imbecile who got a degree because they could bounce a ball? |
Can we stop with this meaningless aerospace engineer example as it is entirely unenlightening? |
you are talking to different posters but sure. How about demanding the NBA be more diverse no? ok how about NBA training camps then and you know it's not fair that many recruits go to camps and prep for basketball from an early age....... See how ridiculous that all is, but that's the exact same argument folks are using about college admissions |
| Is the nba getting lots of tax payer funded federal dollars? How is it at all like college? Last time I looked, the nba is a for profit entertainment business. If you want to be a pro ball player..you need to be able attract fans that will pay to watch you play, period. |
It is racist to suggest (or believe) that smartest = 100% Asian |
| Quality engineers come in many different colors. |
Go look at the data on the quant scores of white athletes vs. URMs and get back to me. Facts are inconvenient. |
| You seem to think that test scores are an accurate and fair indicator of merit? Many schools are not asking for test scores at all this year with good reason due to lack of testing availability in the pandemic. But testing was already on the way out and may not return. |
DP What is your definition of merit? You don't care if your surgeon has failed the board certificate but still operates on you? |
| How to you "fail" the SAT? |
Attending Yale or Harvard is not surgery. But that said, The quality and accomplishments of the admitted class is extremely high. How many Yale or Harvard admits are failing tests? |
reading comprehension fail PP said if There is California though, an entirely merit based system and the top schools have large asian populations and also larger asian population overall. Asians are punching about their weight though. |
| Im surprised people who support test optional, didnt expect others to push back. I like affirmative action, but the identify politics in admissions and higher education in general needs to be tapered. |
The racial disparity in gpa is just as high as the disparity in test scores. If the DOJ gets rid of the action then schools have no incentive to getvrod of test scores. |
