NextDoor now has a thread going about this. And I can’t help but wonder if the parents/friends of have found that thread or this thread. I also wonder since not every parent knows the kids who did it - how many on NextDoor are commenting about their neighbors, pool friends, tennis friends, professional friends, golf buddies, etc.

The parents of these kids should certainly move to these areas. Suits them |
| You're dreaming if you think this stuff doesn't happen in other high schools. What about high schools where hallway fights are a weekly occurrence? That doesn't make news but it is certainly out there, and in high schools in those districts you me too above. |
DP. The rumor about their being at GCM or JM is just that -- a rumor. If true it's appalling, yes, but can anyone confirm whether it's actually happened? This crime is generating a LOT of rumor and misinformation. Parents of students at GCM and JM need real information to protest such a move if it happened but if it didn't, the rumor only creates fear unnecessarily. If either of you is actually a parent of a current student at one of those schools (not Oakton) and you have first hand knowledge, please post. |
| Why would this not potentially be handled as a criminal matter? |
It should have been if it involved several attackers and a stun gun. I understand about not wanting to prosecute kids who fight or engage in mutual combat, as half of the guys in high school would be locked up. But this incident appears to be pretty bad. |
That's what I'd like the Fairfax County police to answer. I'm sure right now they'll say they're still investigating (supposedly FCPS involved them but who knows whether the police have decided to let FCPS handle it). Any Oakton parents pressing the police on this? Neither police nor FCPS will comment specifically and because these are juveniles it'll all be even more under wraps--which is appropriate--but parents at all the FCPS high schools ought to be asking for at least an update on whether these students are still in schools. |
Please. It happens in Langley and the victim gets blamed there, too. FCPS closes ranks, regardless. Going to the press is the parent's only option, in some circumstances. If the police don't bring charges, I would absolutely escalate matters. |
+1 Oakton should have some nice homes with some nice pools to recover on settlement. |
| What does fcps closes ranks mean? |
I can’t believe the attackers names haven’t been circulated by other students. Hundreds of kids know exactly who did this. It is beyond the pale. How many cases, nationwide, have their been in which law enforcement used a taser on a suspect, and they died or were seriously injured, and uproar ensues? This is no different, and possibly worse. This is a kid who is clearly under 100 pounds being mob attacked by men. If I was the victims dad, I would do everything I could to make sure this incident followed the attackers for the rest of their life. They could’ve killed him. |
It means they don’t punish anyone out of fear of being sued, and then refuse to release any information about what happened. E.g., what is occurring. |
The kids won't tell and are afraid that they are next. Wouldn't you be if your school did little to protect the actual victim? |
| Oakton freshman parent here. Some of you are completely nuts. Yes, it was a horrible. Yes, I would be furious if this happened or DS participated in this assault. Jesus, the school has 2800 students. Unfortunately horrible instances like this can and do occur. Bullying sucks, but my God, "sue them" and "imprison the perpetrators"..."fire the administration"..."I'm moving". You guys are infants. Get out of your Pilate classes and dinners at "the club". Welcome to the real world. |
This sure sounds like a parent who has a kid at that school alright
