On film, you have Trump demanding more border security, which includes his wall, you have Trump promising to shut down part of the government if he does not get the security requested, and Schumer and Pelosi saying that what we have now is good enough. ON FILM.

Brilliant move on Trump's part

Fascinating how two people can watch the same meeting and arrive at two different conclusions.

You think he owned the libs. Others see him getting owned. I see both perspectives on Twitter, as well as here.

Did you watch the meeting live?

The whole thing. Schumer asked for it to continue privately. Not Trump. Why don’t Pelosi and Schumer want a wall?

Because it’s moronic. Truly. The whole idea is complete nonsense from about eight different angles.

Yes. Sovereignty is a horribly moronic thing

I didn't read "The Art of the Deal," but I have read other books on negotiating and all of those books say you have to offer something to get something. He wanted a wall. He wanted a wall for two years. He's needed Democrats in the Senate for two years. And in all that time, he has never one single thing in exchange for a wall. It was painfully obvious at this meeting. All he offered was a threat to shutdown. Instead of offering carrots, he offered to smack all three of them with a stick, wait two weeks, and let Pelosi smack him back. What a deal!

To be fair, Trump didn’t read it either.

Because it is a bad idea and waste of money. The fact is, Trump had an opportunity to get the funding for the wall, but he squandered it and after January 1, it will never come back. If he wants the wall, he needs to get the GOP House to pass funding for it immediately to put the onus on the Senate. He hasn't done that. Paul Ryan hasn't done that. Do you know why? They don't have the votes because the GOP knows it is a stupid idea too.

Look at the transcript from yesterday and read any of the dozens of statements Dems have put out. Dems are happy to give money for real border security. But they won’t give one penny for trump’s stupid wall.

Fat Donnie is the reason we can’t have progress on border security.

From what I've read, the Democrats are offering temporary, reversible actions. They are opposed to a permanent solution, like a border wall.

Dems offered a budget that allocated an additional $1.3 billion for border security. That sounds plenty serious to me. But trump’s going to drive us into a ditch because he wants to build a stupid wall.

It's a drop in the bucket, and for what? Additional border agents that Dems will pull back if they get the WH.

12/12/18 C span showed a hearing on drug cartels and border security. The USA needs more barriers, canines, staff, technical, etc. Also financial since money flows not just as bulk cash - unreported income via various channels. Nothing comical about this and I don't know why Pelosi and Schumer saw any humor in the topic…

Why don’t Dems want border protection?

The dems do want border protection and have fully funded all executive requests for funding for years. There is unspent money sitting at ICE, Border Patrol and DHS. The question is, why isn't the Executive spending the money allocated to border security? There is money for drones, for processing asylum seekers, for everything needed to manage the border properly. Trump is making you believe this is an issue to appeal to your xenophobic instincts. The real issue is with employers who depend on illegals (ie cheap/slavish) labor to keep their costs down - the slaughter houses, farms, crabbing facilities etc. Even Trump's clubs hire illegals.

Take away the incentive for illegals to work illegally in the United States and the illegals won't come. But the GOP won't do that because the GOP controlled businesses depend on it.

Please wake up to the realities of how people like you are getting played by Trump and Fox.

The Trump Administration has hundreds of millions of dollars from the current budget that are unspent. Why not ask Trump's DHS why they are not hiring staff, getting canines etc as you suggest. That is an execution problem for the administration that has nothing to do with needing more money.

Why didn't Trump and the GOP do something in the last 2 years when they had complete control? Why has the Trump administration spent $13 million to hire just TWO border protection officers? What exactly is a wall going to accomplish other than being a shiny symbol for Donnie?
Most important: WHY ISN'T MEXICO PAYING as Trump boasted throughout his campaign?
Answers, please.

Exactly! The idea that the federal government will take over private and state owned land is sick. That kind of heavy handed sovereignty by the Feds is what my forefathers fought against.

So what is your solution to this border issue? All i hear is yapping and pointing fingers. This has been going of for decades. Illegals will not stop coming until extreme measures are taken.

Why does Israel get to have walls but we don’t?

Most Jewish people in the US vote democratic and are anti-wall but support walls and restrictive immigration for israel.

I don’t see much consistency.

Trump was right to bring up the effectiveness of Israeli walls.

Why don’t Dems want border protection?

Because Trump campaign on border protection and they don't want him to deliver.

Let's be clear, that's what this is about. Dems couldn't care less about immigrants -- see what they actually did 2008-2016 with Deporter-in-Chief Obama and his turbocharged ICE.

Because Trump campaigned on border protection and they don't want him to deliver.

Trump campaigned on FREE border protection with no cost to the taxpayers. Why don’t you think he has to keep that promise?

What every sane person has been saying forever: start fining the criminals who hire them. Crush the criminals who keep hiring them with fines. Grind the businesses who profit and choose to hire undocumented workers into dust. They’ll quit hiring undocumented workers. Problem solved.
