Trump Threatens to Shutdown Government if No $ for his Border Wall

Most Jewish people in the US vote democratic and are anti-wall but support walls and restrictive immigration for israel.

I don’t see much consistency.

On film, you have Trump demanding more border security, which includes his wall, you have Trump promising to shut down part of the government if he does not get the security requested, and Schumer and Pelosi saying that what we have now is good enough. ON FILM.

Brilliant move on Trump's part

Fascinating how two people can watch the same meeting and arrive at two different conclusions.

You think he owned the libs. Others see him getting owned. I see both perspectives on Twitter, as well as here.

Did you watch the meeting live?

The whole thing. Schumer asked for it to continue privately. Not Trump. Why don’t Pelosi and Schumer want a wall?

Why didn't Trump and the GOP do something in the last 2 years when they had complete control? Why has the Trump administration spent $13 million to hire just TWO border protection officers? What exactly is a wall going to accomplish other than being a shiny symbol for Donnie?
Most important: WHY ISN'T MEXICO PAYING as Trump boasted throughout his campaign?

So what is your solution to this border issue? All i hear is yapping and pointing fingers. This has been going of for decades. Illegals will not stop coming until extreme measures are taken.

Extreme measures = killing butterflies.

It might be worth it if the wall is truly effective...

Kill the demand. The supply will die out. Make the penalties much harsher. Mandate e-verify - and no, it wasn't the Dems that tried to kill it. For exampe, in FL, a rich GOP donor killed a bill that would mandate e-verify. Tea Party also opposed it because of "right to privacy", or was it because it was too onerous for the business owner? Or was it too much regulation? ... all those things R like to talk up.

Remember, many business owners are R leaning because they want lower taxes, but oppose living wages. They like the cheap labor, especially the cheap foreign labor. That's why Trump's resorts hire these cheaper H2B foreign labor over American ones.

They could use the RICO act to put the employers in jail, but the government doesn't.

https://www.businessblogshub.com/2016/01/what-are-the-penalties-for-hiring-illegal-workers/

https://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/immigration/332397-its-time-for-the-feds-to-go-after-those-who-employ-illegal

But in order to preserve access to cheap labor, special interest groups oppose sanctions, and do everything possible to ensure that the law is not enforced. That's been the case for decades. It took only five years from the time that President Reagan granted amnesty to three million illegal aliens for employers to convince Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch to introduce a bill that would have eliminated all employer sanctions that were part of the Reagan amnesty deal.

The bill failed after Coretta Scott King, the widow of Martin Luther King Jr., and a coalition of other black and Hispanic leaders pointed out the “the devastating impact" that illegal employment had on semi-skilled workers, "a disproportionate number of whom are African American and Hispanic." She attributed opposition to enforcing the law to those who sought to "abuse undocumented workers and introduce cheap labor into the U.S. workforce.”

Though proponents of lax law enforcement failed on that occasion, they have used their financial and political power to ensure that sanctions against employers who hire illegal aliens have not been enforced in more recent years

Don't be intellectually lazy. Plenty of common-sense measures have been proposed. Why hasn't the GOP taken up any of them, such as E-verify? Simple. All those Republican farmers would lose their illegal immigrant workers, for starters. Don't pretend that the Republicans are the ones who want to solve this issue and the Democrats are the ones standing in the way.

Why isn't Mexico paying?

Why does he want to flush our hard-earned money down the toilet on this stupid manhood wall when there are better solutions available?

This. In this age of information technology, employers can take many measures to ensure they don’t hire undocumented labor if they don’t want to. e verify, tons of websites that show you how to look for signs that the paperwork is official. Yet many employers don’t want to because they don’t want to pay a fair wage to American workers (like our POTUS). It’s far cheaper to fight unwanted immigration with information technology than a 5 billion dollar wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for. But trump won’t do that because he likes profiting off immigrant labor at the same time he vilifies it.

Israel’s dream is to have a Jewish state from the river to the sea.

So it is kind of like “sea to shining sea”

Perhaps we need to change the constitution so we can incorporate the screening techniques Israel gets to have.

The border problems are similar in the grand scheme of things. Effectively blocking undesirables from entering.

You're welcome to have a constitutional convention. Go for it.

A constitutional convention will not yield the results you are looking for, unless it is utter clarity on the 2nd Amendment to ban assault weaponry and mandate background checks and ensure mentally ill people do not have access to guns.

Pelosi would be cooked if California farms couldn’t pay illegals $3/hr to pick stuff.

Budget issue is about the 5 billion which is more than physical barriers. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/congress/house-bill-funds-5-billion-for-wall-adds-ice-and-border-patrol-agents

C span hearing went into the issues on cartels, financial issues, etc. E verify is different per state. Comical how DC is pursuing reimbursement for out of boundary/DC border on tuition yet our country is supposed to fund undocs.

I didn't read "The Art of the Deal," but I have read other books on negotiating and all of those books say you have to offer something to get something. He wanted a wall. He wanted a wall for two years. He's needed Democrats in the Senate for two years. And in all that time, he has never one single thing in exchange for a wall. It was painfully obvious at this meeting. All he offered was a threat to shutdown. Instead of offering carrots, he offered to smack all three of them with a stick, wait two weeks, and let Pelosi smack him back. What a deal!

Why don’t Dems want border protection?

The dems do want border protection and have fully funded all executive requests for funding for years. There is unspent money sitting at ICE, Border Patrol and DHS. The question is, why isn't the Executive spending the money allocated to border security? There is money for drones, for processing asylum seekers, for everything needed to manage the border properly. Trump is making you believe this is an issue to appeal to your xenophobic instincts. The real issue is with employers who depend on illegals (ie cheap/slavish) labor to keep their costs down - the slaughter houses, farms, crabbing facilities etc. Even Trump's clubs hire illegals.

Take away the incentive for illegals to work illegally in the United States and the illegals won't come. But the GOP won't do that because the GOP controlled businesses depend on it.

Please wake up to the realities of how people like you are getting played by Trump and Fox.

(A) Take away incentives to come here: verify and w-2s for all- no cash unreported wages society; no more Citizenship by Birth (ie welfare for anchor babies at age 1 month old indefinitely)- have child apply 7 yrs later like Europe for babies born there.
(B) strict enforcement of borders, true asylum cases and deportation of visa overstays and illegal border hoppers.

It should also be illegal for them to use public services such as public schools if they do not have proof of legal residency. If you make it harder for them to survive here under an illegal status, less will come. These changes don't require tax payer money!

You're not very knowledgeable, are you? California farm areas are among the few Republican parts of the state. See Devin Nunes, who likes to complain about illegal immigration at the same time his family profits off Mexican and Central American labor.
