I'm not saying that there should be NO factors weighing into admissions other than grades and scores., but race should not be one of them. I'm one of the PPs arguing for income-based AA. This would still give a leg up to black kids from poorer families, which is valid, but I am opposed to schools that have formulas that aim to "match" percentages; e.g. 14% of the population is black so we need to make the class 14% black, so let's come up admission parameters for blacks to meet this goal.

I have no kids at TJ.

Blacks at top universities are already much lower than their share of the national population. It is the asians and jews who are taking over 50% of the deats when they are only 7% of the population. Without Affirmative action black percentage will drop down to negligible and Asian/jew will be at 75%. Are you ok with that?

How about whites suffer under slavery by blacks for centuries and then you can answer this question? There is racism existing to this day. You walk in the street and you see a black man you assume the worst regardless of who that person is and that is subtle racism. A white man doesn't stop at a stop sign then it is "a stupid man", a black man does the same then it is "these stupid blacks". This is Subtle racism as well. Jews came with education as do asians and both of them never suffered from the worst of racism. I'm not saying that there should be NO factors weighing into admissions other than grades and scores., but race should not be one of them. I'm one of the PPs arguing for income-based AA. This would still give a leg up to black kids from poorer families, which is valid, but I am opposed to schools that have formulas that aim to "match" percentages; e.g. 14% of the population is black so we need to make the class 14% black, so let's come up admission parameters for blacks to meet this goal.

Over 14% of Harvard's admittances were black which is greater than the percentage of black people in this country. And of course in a race blind world Asians and Jews would be disproportionately represented because those two groups outperform the average. What exactly is wrong with that?

Do not keep saying "for whatever reason". What do you think it is? Please elaborate. Holocaust is a very short event and it wasn't going on for centuries. Also jews are not suffering through the effects of holocaust like blacks are suffering through the effects of slavery to this day. it's a fair argument as to whether we continue to "owe" blacks preferential treatment (and if so, for how many more generations), but AA is a costly policy, admitting students who are less likely to graduate and denying students more likely to graduate.

Are you claiming there are hoards of white high school students who don't get into college at all because of AA? So they end up not getting a college education? Seems to me that is an applicant can't even get into a single college perhaps he wasn't ready for higher education.

No, but a black applicant admitted to a top-tier school under lower standards, where the white student is rejected, is definitely costing that white student a slot. Now you can argue that the white student can go to a 2nd-tier school, but I am saying why should the black kid get to go to the better school and the white kid to a lesser school despite the fact that the white kid had higher grades and scores? Patently unfair and racist.

When the white kid suffers from centuries of racism, jim crow, housing discrimination, voting disenfranchisement, negative stereotyping, poverty, drug infested gloomy neighborhood, getting stopped and shot by cops for no reason, and lack of positive role models THEN whites can expect the same help as blacks.

Black kids trying to get into college haven't suffered from centuries of racism. They're 18 years old, and they, and their parents, and and their grandparents have been given preferential treatment in admissions. And there's a lack of positive role models? Is that the whites' fault, too?

Blacks really should look toward the Jews and emulate them, rather than resent them. Study how they overcome terrible prejudice, slamming doors (good luck getting into an Ivy in the 50s), mass murder of their cousins, and STILL managed to form strong family units and get an education. Ask yourself: what are Jews doing differently than blacks that have helped them succeed in spite of antisemitism? And there's your answer.

Are theee kids centuries old? Irish were discriminated against to in the 1800s, where's my special treatment? Were irish made to live in ghettos by creating school districts that out prices blacks from getting in due to high real estate prices? I can go on and on.

Do not judge someone until you lived in their shoes for some time. If you compare Irish against the jews or asians they fall way short. Look at the majority irish population in the Appalachia?
