A) This is not what affirmative action "says"
B) Holistic admission accounts for more than just grades and GPA because schools want interesting, dynamic, students who aren't just book smart - regardless of race. I know I am glad the school I went to looked at more than just grades and test scores.
C) Kids drop out of schools for all sorts of reasons but not one of them is affirmative action. You are spewing nonsense. In fact, if schools also focused on supporting kids once they were admitted and not exposing them to the kind of prejudiced views you hold, they might feel more included in the college community.

She is not spewing nonsense. Affirmative action needs to end because it is an institutionalized form of racism and no longer needed.

+ 1 Students admitted under affirmative action policies graduate at much lower rates. Why this should surprise anyone is odd. After all, they were admitted with lower grades and scores that would have put them in the reject pile if they were white, Asian, or Jewish. This very reliable source says that the lowest completion rate, defined at graduating four years from when one started a specific institution, is lowest among black males (40%) and highest among Asian females (75%).

it's a fair argument as to whether we continue to "owe" blacks preferential treatment (and if so, for how many more generations), but AA is a costly policy, admitting students who are less likely to graduate and denying students more likely to graduate.

Are you claiming there are hoards of white high school students who don't get into college at all because of AA? So they end up not getting a college education? Seems to me that is an applicant can't even get into a single college perhaps he wasn't ready for higher education.

No, but a black applicant admitted to a top-tier school under lower standards, where the white student is rejected, is definitely costing that white student a slot. Now you can argue that the white student can go to a 2nd-tier school, but I am saying why should the black kid get to go to the better school and the white kid to a lesser school despite the fact that the white kid had higher grades and scores? Patently unfair and racist.

When the white kid suffers from centuries of racism, jim crow, housing discrimination, voting disenfranchisement, negative stereotyping, poverty, drug infested gloomy neighborhood, getting stopped and shot by cops for no reason, and lack of positive role models THEN whites can expect the same help as blacks.

Black kids trying to get into college haven't suffered from centuries of racism. They're 18 years old, and they, and their parents, and and their grandparents have been given preferential treatment in admissions. And there's a lack of positive role models? Is that the whites' fault, too?

Blacks really should look toward the Jews and emulate them, rather than resent them. Study how they overcome terrible prejudice, slamming doors (good luck getting into an Ivy in the 50s), mass murder of their cousins, and STILL managed to form strong family units and get an education. Ask yourself: what are Jews doing differently than blacks that have helped them succeed in spite of antisemitism? And there's your answer.

Are theee kids centuries old? Irish were discriminated against to in the 1800s, where's my special treatment? Your real position is that because African Americans underachievers (for whatever reason that might be) they should be given special preference, to achieve equal RESULTS not just equal OPPORTUNITY.

Did Irish Americans go through slavery? Were Irish people relegated to the back of the bus? Were the Irish subjugated to Jim Crow? Were the irish not allowed to vote until the 70s? Were the irish not allowed buy a home and accumulate some equity (which is used to pay for college among other things) until the 80s? Were irish stopped by cops for no reason and shot as of 2017? Were irish seen with negative stereotype just by being irish? Were irish not called for interview with the exact same resume as a white man but name changed to Tamika? Were irish made to live in ghettos by creating school districts that out prices blacks from getting in due to high real estate prices? I can go on and on.

Do not judge someone until you lived in their shoes for some time. If you compare Irish against the jews or asians they fall way short. Look at the majority irish population in the Appalachia?

Oh boo hoo. Everyone has been wronged at some point. You'll never build a better world by trying to compensate for past wrongs.

Not when the wrongs is as vile and evil as slavery. Not when the evil on blacks continues to this day when blacks get jail and whites get community service for drug possession. Like I said you won't know until you and your family suffer from slavery and everything else the blacks have been subjected to. Well over half of Appalachia will be in jail if they are treated like blacks for marijuana possession.

Have YOU, or any of your living relatives, experienced slavery? I, on the other hand, listened to my grandmother cry as she showed me old photos of her mother, sister, brother, SIL, and six young children, who were murdered for being Jewish. She lived out the remainder of her days feeling guilty that she escaped, and the rest of her family killed. That didn't stop her own kids from going to college and becoming professionals.

Stop blaming external influences and take responsibility where you can. Not everything is someone else's fault.

JFC.

Your JFC response is meaningless. You mean to say that blacks should not study what Jews have done to succeed in the face of a horrific personal history, and emulate it? Why not? Seems they're doing something right.

You are good at making assumptions. I don't have to be black to make a case for Affirmative Action. Holocaust is bad but not nearly as bad as slavery which went on for centuries and killed millions of blacks and deprived them the very humanity you take for granted. It is much much worse than Holocaust. No one said everything is someone else's fault. But slavery, jim crow, cop shooting of unarmed blacks, harsh criminal justice reserved for minor black crimes are all on the hands of systemic racism.

There are millions of Americans who are still live and experienced lynching by KKK, the humiliation of being spat on and pushed to the back of the bus, the humiliation of being treated as third class citizens when it comes to voting, education, housing and what not. Have you experienced any of that?

"Again we have deluded ourselves into believing the myth that Capitalism grew and prospered out of the Protestant ethic of hard work and sacrifice. The fact is that capitalism was built on the exploitation and suffering of black slaves and continues to thrive on the exploitation of the poor – both black and white, both here and abroad." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr. “The Three Evils of Society”, 1967

Insert "Jewish ethic of hard work and sacrifice."
Fits perfectly doesn't it?

There are millions of Americans who are still live and experienced lynching by KKK, the humiliation of being spat on and pushed to the back of the bus, the humiliation of being treated as third class citizens when it comes to voting, education, housing and what not.

Comparing past hardship in order to make subjective determinations, as they relate to expectations of success, is an absurd practice.

The problem with engaging in struggle-equation is that it overlooks the distinctive, historic plight of blacks in the United States, making it difficult for many people to understand why black Americans continue to lag behind in areas ranging from politics to socioeconomic class. The journey for blacks in the United States has been unique in every sense of the word, and neither its origin nor its progression need be measured against anyone else’s.

Struggle-equation fails to consider the latent factors encompassed within a particular community’s oppression – those factors that are the true determinants of a group’s collective potential for advancement.

Emulate them? Are you kidding? The Jewish people in this country would hate that. That would mean that all the top jobs at elite universities would be given to blacks and they would only promote other blacks. Most everyone in power in the media, banking, and Hollywood would be black. Harvard, Yale, etc would be mostly black. Jewish people will never let this happen. They may be only 2% of the population but they make damn sure they are the 1%. If anyone points out how Jews always look out first for other Jews especially in elite admissions they give you the one two punch and call you a Nazi. They say they are discriminated against and call the NAACP. Some rabbi had a fit that Princeton was not Jewish enough at 25%. What happened in Nazi Germany was horrible but plenty of non Jews lost their lives trying to defeat Hitler. In this country Jewish people have lived a life of privilege. It is a lie that Jews are smarter than African Americans.

But slavery, jim crow, cop shooting of unarmed blacks, harsh criminal justice reserved for minor black crimes are all on the hands of systemic racism.

oh

Here we go again. Let's see whose history is worse - descendants of slaves or descendants of the Holocaust.

lynchings
gas chambers
rapes
brutal force
starvation
child labor
breaking families apart

You must be very competitive, PP. but for all the wrong reasons . . .
