Yup. Whites are not the biggest victims of affirmative action in college admissions. Asian-Americans are. Pretty sure Trump isn't focused on that, though. |
Fine to allow them to consider race so long as other schools or institutions are allowed to consider race in the other direction, and openly favor whites. |
Like "oh poor me" programs for Blacks? "Oh poor me my great great grandfather was a slave!" |
Private institutions can do what they want. SCOTUS has articulated the standard in a recents string of cases for publics. What is the DOE doing again? And BTW-- white parent here with a kid at TJ. The students who have a legit beef about being held to a higher standard in college admissions are Asians-- especially inIvys and STEM programs. My kid will get in to a college with a lower GPA and lower SAT that his Asian classmates. But sure, affluent whites are being shafted. |
Because there's a centuries long history of systematic discrimination against whites in the US? And because whites aren't fully represented in the makeup of college classes in proportion to their percentage of the American population? |
If they are first gen college students then most colleges do give them a boost. |
Then don't send your kid to a university that uses holistic admissions. Easy peasy. But the Trump DOJ can't tell private universitities not to consider race. And publics can use it as a "plus factor"-- so you will have to cope. |
No, Dear, like "Poor me, my great grandfather was a slave owner and now my boss is a woman or Black or Asian, etc and now one says Merry Christmas anymore!" And "Oh, poor me! We spent six thousand dollars on an SAT tutor, another 3K for someone to write his college application essay and provide guidance, and another 800K on private school and my white son still didn't get into Harvard! Even after we paid for him to go on a church trip to help the pagan children!!" |
| Why should a black student who has a 3.3 gpa, 1200 sat and who comes from an upper middle class background and has good extracurriculars get into better schools than a white middle class student with a 3.6 gpa, 1300 sat and good extracurriculars? This is reality to many Affirmative action should be on family income not race. |
No they can't. Do you think a restaurant can refuse to serve black customers? Or a school to admit black students? It's all prohibited by federal law under the commerce clause. |
Because liberals want to destroy the white race. |
|
Wow.
So, all those people who were mad that they were called deplorables, are actually deplorable racists. Who knew? |
How is that? China and India are such great cultures. I would imagine there are lots of opportunities for innovative people in China and India. |
|
identity politics, GOP style.
|
That is exactly what legacy admissions IS-- in practice. For decades, non-whites weren't admitted to what are considered the elite universities. Those institutions give big preference to legacy kids-- the vast majority of whom are white. It isn't just Jamal with the 1300 who is beating out white middle-class Meg with the 1500 whose parents went to State U-- it is Ripley IV with the 1400 and the legacy parents. |
