Holier than thou, much? Have teenagers who have never made a mistake? Or exercised bad judgment? Maybe you are perfect?

To 7:25-don't you need to be getting ready to go door to door spreading the gospel according to Christian Science or church of Latter Day Saints?

Me too. We were the lucky ones.

OH please. It's not like 50% of episodes of walking alone at night end up in kidnapping or rape! Both women AND men do reckless things as young people - and in fact, young men end up dying from their recklessness more than women. Walking alone at night in a college town is hardly high risk (although walking alone dead drunk at any time by any gender is always a bad idea).

So sad for this young woman and her family. All the more reason to teach our precious daughters to take safety precautions.

Volunteers are being asked to join only if they can walk 4-5 miles in a wooded area. That doesn't sound good.

Again to 7:25-and you should add mean-spirited to your bio. Sometimes nastiness and holier than thou doesn't resonate.

Why did this thread devolve into a conversation about street smarts then? I've only popped on here and there, barely keeping up. Clearly it's on many peoples' minds.

Are you saying it's a good idea for a young inebriated women to walk alone at night in a sketchy area? I don't think it is. Guess that makes me mean-spirited.

Please stay on topic, people.

Not a good idea, but that's obvious and doesn't need to be the point made here. You are mean - go somewhere else to make grieving families feel worse.

+1 start a spin off thread if you want to discuss street smarts.

The police should post a pic of his car, to help potential witnesses come forward.

Are they searching in a specific area. How would they know where to search?
