IVFers, how old are you and how many eggs?

Hi Ladies,
With my clinic they want me to choose an option to do before I do any egg retrievals and I am stumped and reading through all your posts in hope to get some insight.
I am 37 yrs old, I have had 3 failed IUI's, unexplained infertility as they call it.
I have a low FSH 0.952 and 9 Follicles on the first ultrasound.
Should I bank eggs first? Or should I just go with the 1 round of IVF and hope to god I get good quality eggs. The kicker is, the clinic doesn't believe in fresh transfers due to studies showing a higher percentage rate of frozen transfers resulting in a pregnancy. So who is to say I will have any to freeze? The cost difference is large though so this is where my struggle is on what to do.

I think you must mean should you freeze all of the resulting embryos. Doesn’t make sense to bank your eggs unless you don’t have a partner or sperm donor.

My understanding of the preference to do a frozen transfer is due to the potentially negative effects the meds have on uterine lining thickness and hormone levels. They should be able to monitor those and give you input on whether a greasy transfer is advisable.

If you have insurance coverage that may also dictate what you have to do. I had to freeze a blast because my progesterone was too high to do a fresh transfer. I wanted to do another retrieval before a transfer but insurance wouldn’t cover another retrieval until I did the transfer of the frozen blast.

Good luck.

Sorry I should of been more clear. My husband and I have done 3 IUI's and that didn't work. My medical doesn't cover a thing so everything has been out of pocket and as many of us know it's expensive. So they want me to bank my eggs which means go through egg retrieval several of times to get as many as eggs as possible before doing the insemination. My question is, should I bank my eggs seen how I only have 9 follicles or should I just wing it and pay for 1 round, and pray I have viable healthy eggs to be put back in ?

I think I posted about my first IVF and unfortunately we had to do another IVF cycle but if not, here's the info for both.

First IVF:
Age 38
33 eggs retrieved, 26 fertilized, 13 made it to day 7. Only 5 PGS tested normal.

Second IVF:
Age 39
18 eggs retrieved, 13 mature, 7 made it to day 7 and are being PGS tested now.

PP, amazing numbers on both retrievals! Do you mind sharing your AMH/FSH/AFC? I am your age and do not produce anywhere near that number (and I do not yet have DOR, just average numbers for my age).

I don’t have the numbers from my first retrieval but my most recent one is AMH is 2.95, FSH 1.4, AFC is 9. I do know my doc said my AMH numbers were the the same or similar as the first retrieval but idk what exactly it was.

Devastated

This was me. Did a second round a few months later. Made a few changes like PICSI instead of ICSI.
8 retrieved
8 mature
7 fertilized
Transferred one, froze three, BFP and about 34 weeks now

You mean bank embryos, right? At your age, I would say do as many stim cycles as you can afford. I was always a high responded (late 30s/early 40s) but my last rounds (I banked because it made more sense with insurance) of the approximately 50+ eggs over three cycles, I had ONE embryo to transfer (we had a pre-existing genetic issue with a 50% impact rate, to be clear). We probably got 20 to 5 day blasts; lost 12 to the known genetic issue and more to other issues, then literally were down to one recommended for transfer. DS is nearly 2. It's a numbers game for sure. No matter what your response, you need to get the biggest pool possible/afford at the youngest age.

Just wanted to update this that of the 7 being tested, only one came back normal. While not unexpected, I can't help but feel disappointed.

I was the PP who asked about your CD 3 numbers - i'm the same age as you and got four eggs, three to blast and also one normal. It's crazy how random the whittling down process is with eggs/embryos. Are you doing a transfer or another cycle to bank?
