OOS yield is only 16% at UVA.
Let's assume this is true. So what. The kids who want to attend don't give a shit about OOS yield, and their families apparently are able to make it work financially. Please move on and let interested families discuss their results.

Maybe oos yield is low bc in order to get in UVA from oos, you may have ability to get in ivy? Look at the oos stats. Or a massive scholarship at own state school. Who cares about yield when the stats of the oos kids are extremely selective.

What cares? UVA is better than Ivies

That’s an interesting opinion! How about all of the top 25 are good so go where you fit in best and can afford and let them worry about yield?

Who died and put you in charge?

Best to all... and those videos are fun to watch...

but.... Where do we find the Instagram account with all the videos of the kids who didn't get in?

I want to see the videos of OOS parents crying when kids get in and see tuition alone is $81K a year.

+1. For. A. State. School.

Like. No. Other. State. School.
Good luck to all! Great school, worth every penny.

I have mixed feelings. DC is in at Michigan, but was going to feel pressure to go to UvA. I think Michigan wins in every category, but tuition and maybe weather. DC never lived UVA, but applied bc it made sense. Am I bummed, relieved or both?

It's all good news as your DC can move forward on their college journey! My DD has made the decision that a deferral means she will go where she's been accepted and is excited about that! She will not be waiting for the next round. Congrats to all the new Hoos!

Michigan is fantastic. She can move ahead with it as her top choice and if Virginia comes through, she can re-evaluate. Congratulations on Michigan!

+1. In-state VA friend was waiisted at UVA but in at Michigan. She was a week into classes at Michigan when she was admitted to UVA. She packed up and went to UVA and never looked back (and her parents were thrilled with in-state tuition.
even if this was in the 90s, this couldn’t happen. I was waitlisted myself and they sent a letter in the summer saying it’s over.

+ 1. There are so many holes in this story.
The parents were excited about in state tuition but also clearly signed a contract to pay the first year OOS at Michigan? And the slot was still available at uva?

It’s definitely a fake story from a UVA booster.

And their desperation is showing. “And never looked back.” So dramatic.

SCHEV gets admission data from the universities so if the university is saying what SCHEV is showing is wrong then it probably is. I love how you people think SCHEV has some super secret data that is the ultimate truth just because it confirms your priors.

UVA is living rent free in some haters’ heads. They’re more obsessed than the boosters. It’s kind of sad.

Amen! Who cares? Why is this taking up space in this thread?

Congratulations to all the new EA admits!!! Our student was admitted ED and we are over the moon!! It has everything they wanted…..great academics, plenty of social opportunities, nice size college town, campus, location, setting, etc etc…. not once did they care about a yield rate. It’s perfect for them and that’s all that matters.

Move on please!

If you really think about it longitudinally, it means UVA is on the long-term decline because 1) it is too reliant on oos kids for budgeting purposes and 2) it is charging a private school tuition that these kids think is not worth it. Something will have to give if UVA will maintain its level of prestige. The writing is on the wall — and some people can read it better than others.

Omg... better at enrolling kids from NOVA? Better at enrolling kids with 1200 SATs? If you're talking about those, then yes.

I bet yield is up this year. My DC is OOS magnet public and has "ivy level" (if you will) stats as do friends. Everyone they know got into at best one top EA admit. My DC into Michigan. Best friend into UVA. Third friend into UNC. 2 friends into UF. Nobody USC. Nobody Texas. Each deferred from the rest. These are friends from several different high schools so it's not that universities are dividing admits from one class of kids. No one really expects RD to bring accepts as everyone will be back into the same pool for very few spots.

Just my thoughts but it seems like there are many deferrals and kids are lucky to have one top40 admit. I bet yield for all is uncharacteristically high.
