Exactly. This is "equity," playing out in real time. I hope all of you who voted for this are happy with yourselves?

Next election cycle, find some legitimate conservatives to run for school board instead of a bunch of MAGA clowns and I'll be glad to vote for one of them.

You will accuse any one endorsed by republicans as a “MAGA clown” so your opinion is irrelevant.

Actually, there are a lot of us who know the difference between legitimate conservatism and MAGA.

But all the conservative candidates for the SB were aligned with MAGA vs traditional conservatives.

Why does the extreme left always want to drag others down to the lowest level rather than actually fixing issues?

What does this even mean?

DP - you really don't know what this means? FCPS is teaching to the lowest common denominator. It's not fair others have _____, because I wasn't born as smart or didn't have the same environment. If you have more or do better than me, it's not because of your hard work. If some kids do homework, that's not fair because others have parents that won't make them or their home life is not conducive to homework. If some kids turn in their classwork and get a grade, that's not fair because other kids may know the material but they didn't do the work, so not fair. If a kid studies for a test and gets a 4 and another gets a 2, that kid with the 2 should be given more opportunities to get a 4, because it's not fair for anyone to be stuck with the results that come from not studying/having a bad day/whatever.

I wish FCPS would just give the kids with Ds and Fs a C and leave everyone else alone.

+1 although I don't think this is just an issue with the extreme left. Schools in deep red states do the same thing because they also get dinged if too many kids fail classes or drop out. The difference is that those schools, and many others not just in deep red states, have always been shitty. There are enough Fairfax residents who remember when FCPS was an excellent school system and are appalled at how far it's fallen in the past 20 years.

Nah. You think there is nothing worth “conserving” in American culture and tradition, and that only racists think otherwise.

What the “good” people do is fight to disrupt and deconstruct this country built on stolen land and founded in slavery so it can be built back better or whatever.

So many recent posters who truly do not understand the reality here. What a shame.

I don’t think a moderate conservative can overcome the non-parent voter who will just vote blue down the line. Dems will always win in this area and these problems are theirs alone to solve.

Unfortunately, this is true. Might be nice to have only parents vote for school board.

DP. I have long advocated for this, but was called all kinds of names here on good ol' DCUM when I brought it up. There is zero reason anyone who is not a parent should get to vote on the school board. Zero.

Sorry, should have encouraged you to contact your SB member to let them know your thoughts.

Oh I have! Many many times to be “left on read” as the kids say!

Having different grading systems seems to fly in the face of One Fairfax.

As does having AAP centers. Lots of things are inequitable in One Fairfax's "equity lens." It still astounds me that I'm a product of FCPS and received an excellent education. Whatever it is that my own kids are receiving bears no resemblance. Common sense has truly gone out the window.

Regular (traditional) grading worked and was understood by all. Why did they change it?

Non-school bureaucrats are always trying to justify their jobs by coming up with the "new" thing. Standards based grading is an old concept from the '80's and '90's. It's being recycled in a new package. Eventually going back to all classes everyday will become a new trend and FCPS will do that and try to convince everyone that block schedule was a mistake.

No standards based grading is not what was going on in the 80s and 90s. Anywhere. At any grade

I grew up here and there was definitely no SBG. Just traditional grades that made sense to everyone. And quizzes were handed back so students could use them to study for upcoming tests.

I can't believe you had to explain that to the PP. I agree with everything except the last sentence. I feel if you earned a D or F, that should be your grade.

I know a family that lives in the shadow of Herndon High School and are zoned for Langley, 12 miles away. Ridiculous what these snobs get away with.

12 miles which is an hour commute down Georgetown Pike or Rt -7. Ridiculous.

I do that Georgetown Pike commute frequently, and it’s never taken more than half an hour. You are just straight up lying here.

You ladies just try to hack every discussion thread with this redistricting nonsense. It’s so transparent and off-putting.

I do this commute 4 days per week and I’ve had it take that long. If i happen leave my house at 8:30 instead of 8:00 in the morning communyte, or bad weather (worse if a tree falls down), when a pipe breaks on towlston and the water creates a mess on Gtown pike, car accident, nice weather and idiots are walking on the pike itself, the list goes on…

But most days it’s 20 mins to 495, then 10 mins to my office.

BS. First, the public pays taxes that are used for the public schools. We have a say and how that money is spent via our elected officials. Second, the public depends on an educated population, otherwise why should we pay for anyone to go to school. Maybe you think we should return to a feudal system and keep the masses dumb so that a (dumber) aristocracy can rule them?

We need to educate our neighbors without kids in the system about what is going on. My elderly neighbor was shocked when I told her what was going on at Madison. She was even more shocked when I told her about some of our SB members. She said, "I had no idea."

And not just quizzes to be able to study for upcoming tests, but stop the odd practice of working on study guides that have to be turned in before the test so another that cannot use to study weekend before/nights before test. If kids could use their phones would tell them to take photos of it before come home. Instead, pull up those Google slide presentations! So strange.

What is meant by this? Percentage that can obtain a 4-year degree and get a job in their field within 2 years of graduating and maintain working in that field for at least five years and actually start a career? Or just kids that can pass high school and get into NOVA?
