There is zero loyalty in girls lacrosse. If there is a real, or even perceived advantage (usually coaching or recruiting) by playing for another team, parents will move their kid. Coppermine will be decimated after eight grade. |
I agree. Feels like that club is putting a lot into the 2028 team and they have some spectacular players. Maryland boards are pretty obsessed with criticizing their style of play, and substitution strategies, but they seem to be pretty effective as a team. Guessing that if they can come close to their level of play from the last two years this season, that the team's core will hold together. |
Not sure it quite works on a numerical cutoff. It's seems more related to coaches gravitating toward the top brackets at tournaments. At the major tournaments the top three or four brackets will normally have teams in the top 20 or so. Larger tournaments like President's Cup would have coaches watching further down. They will also watch players on their list even if their team is outside the top group. Then there the all star tournaments, showcases, etc., which draw lots of college coaches. |
Thanks for the reply. This is helpful. |
They will watch just about anyone because you never know who you will see. Coaches will spend all day at tournaments even if the top brackets only play morning games or only play afternoon games. DD plays on a team ranked around the 100s and a few of her teammates got looks this way from top 25 schools (I realize they are just looks). Lower ranked teams may only have 1 or 2 shots to impress compared to the top teams though. It also depends on how connected your coaches/club director/recruiting directors are. They can convince coaches to come watch a game. |
Great group of kids. Will be interesting to see how this NGLL season goes. If they have a good run as expected I think they will stay together for the most part. There will be some attrition but that is to be expected. |
No reason for any players getting significant playing time to leave. Those who don’t play much may seek other alternatives |
Wrong. The Capital 25 coach will be the Capital 28 coach. He does help out occasionally with Stars, but is not their coach |
I suspect that there are some really good backups on Coppermine who could be shopping around for a new (MD) club. Could be a windfall for Skywalkers, M&D or Heros. |
Absolutely. Very talented players on that team who do not always see the field. That seems to be the chief knock on Coppermine ‘28 is that they play the same kids for the vast majority of the game. Have no idea if that is true as DD team only plays a couple times a year. |
Does anyone know how the new M&D team (West?) did this Fall? |
Skywalkers seems like the most likely beneficiary of any Coppermine departures, all things being equal with the other clubs. Great recruiting and a good player could make a name for herself fast on that team. |
There won't be any departures of top players and definitely none to Skywalkers. Their time as one of the top clubs has come and gone. Everyone knows it except for a few Skywalker's parents. There may be a couple of lower-tier players for that team (still solid players) that go to SW Blue for playing time. As far as DC kids go, the only Baltimore area teams anyone should consider making the hike for are M&D and Heros, and staying local with Capital is the best option of any. Zero reasons to not go to Capital. |
I think the previous post was about Coppermine kids who might be leaving not about where DC area kids should go but thanks for the same point you’ve been making a thousand times now about your paranoia that DC area girls will leave for greener pastures. |
Not unique to Coppermine. Many MD clubs favor the starters. |
