Not necessarily true for Fox Mill. Half are absolutely closer to South Lakes.

Not true.

DP. Close enough to half. Half is equidistant and some are closer to South Lakes.

From Fox Mill ES to SLHS: 3.6 miles
From Fox Mill ES to Western (KAA): 3.3 miles

Fox Mill school itself is located on the eastern side of the Fox Mill boundary. There are a sizable number of houses (Monterey Estates, Bradley Farm, and a small portion of Fox Mill Estates) west of Route 286, and they are very close to Western.

I would say about 2/3 are roughly equidistant and 1/3 is much closer to Western. Very few are closer to South Lakes.

Not enough distance to make a difference. A mile difference at most. On the other hand, Crossfield kids are not even close to equidistant to Oakton.

💯 The vast majority of Crossfield homes are closer to Western than Oakton. Not to mention, the drive is a lot safer and more straightforward for those families to get to Western than Oakton.

Most of Fox Mills is closer. That's all anyone has said. No one is claiming Fox Mills currently has a long bus ride. There's not a "problem" in anyone's "argument."

If Crossfield doesn't end up at Western, it's because of Crossfield parents who want to stay at Oakton, not because of FM.

The Crossfield parents who want to move, should email and speak up. They'd find support.

Exactly.

The PP claimed half of Fox Mill is “absolutely closer to South Lakes”, which is just not true.

If Crossfield doesn't end up at the Western high school, it's because of RIO parents.

If Fox Mill is not going to Western, it’s because of Meren.

It’s that simple.

No it’s not. Space constraints likely mean either Fox Mill or Crossfield, not both. There’s no excuse for wasting more money on Western beyond that needed to operate with about 2000 seats. Some in western Fairfax are pigs who seem to think they are entitled to every last penny in the county.

Western Fairfax has long needed a community high school.

No one said the new school should take more than 2,000 kids.

As far as I know, there is no organized group lobbying for their group to be included in the boundary. The RIO parents are literally lobbying to be excluded.

Wow! That is absolutely not true. The only reason FCPS has not done this sooner is that they gave away the property to the Saudis. Probably because of political pressure from above.

This school has been needed for decades. Why do you think they put kids who live a mile away from Chantilly on the 10 mile trek to Oakton--against their wishes?

There are two middle schools between Herndon and Chantilly and NO high school.

Fox Mill will not go if Crossfield does. No one thinks both Fox Mill and Crossfield will be at Western.

There are a good number of parents at Fox Mill who are vocally lobbying to attend Western, Meren is ignoring those people. She won’t meet with the Fox Mill PTA, she cancelled one meeting and has not been willing to set up another meeting. She has been asked many times. So yes, if fox Mill does not end up at Western, it is on Meren.

Tell us how many seats Western would need to accommodate six full feeders, how much additional money that will cost, how many surplus seats would then exist in western Fairfax, and how many other capital projects would be delayed.

You’re getting the additional high school even though Herndon is sitting there with over 600 empty seats. It’s a done deal, so let’s set some reasonable boundaries for a school with enough kids to thrive. Just don’t keep implying FCPS needs to turn Western into a mega-HS just like Carson was a mega-AAP center for so many years.

Why are we even talking about Herndon? It’s not even close to a majority of these schools (minus Coates but we all know why they aren’t all being sent there). This area needs a community high school. Period.

I’d propose moving Coates (Excluding Worldgate) Crossfield (excluding Fox Mill Woods which is closer to South Lakes), Floris, Fox Mill, McNair, Navy Island, and Oak Hill.

I don’t know how many students that is because the map is unclear.

362 students from Centreville (Bull Run ES) and 100-200 something students from Chantilly move to Westfield.

The rest is obscure.

I think 400 something students are projected to move from Oak Hill Area to Western, 74 from Navy Island to Western, 370 or 408 from South Lakes depending on whether or not you want to include Fox Mill Woods or not, and 1005 from Westfield, plus 436 from Oakton.

That is actually 2200-2300 students, but knowing FCPS, they might trying to get it to like 2500 as they say 2000+.

With Herndon being mentioned, move Forestville and Great Falls to it, then, move Westbriar island into Colvin Run and feed it to Cooper and Langley.

Put all of Spring Hill into Langley, and call it a day.
