DP. They’ve said they want Western to be able to handle 2000+ kids, but some of the initial boundary scenarios would pull slightly over 1700 kids into Western.

So PP is hypothesizing they’ll pick one of these scenarios and then hope hundreds of kids living outside the boundaries will pupil place into Western for its “pathways” program. That way Reid can say she followed the instruction to open a traditional school, but still get the soft magnet she clearly wants.

OP.

Yes, board voted for a traditional school with a specialty program but the magnitude of this specialty program hasn’t been determined.

If you read their FAQ, there’s a possibility that it may work like a semi-magnet.

In 2028-29, all 9th graders (currently enrolled 6th graders) in the defined boundary will go to the new school. The school will hold students enrolled in 9th through 12th grade. Students from outside the boundary may opt in to fill empty slots, however they may have to provide their own transportation.

I think Reid might even propose including only four elementary schools in the boundary: Floris, Coates, McNair, and Oak Hill.

This would give a plenty of room for the out of boundary kids to opt in.

To be clear I am not advocating this. I am just speculating.

OMG the conspiracy theories on here are out of control!! That sentence "students from outside the boundary may opt in to fill empty slots" refers to the upper grades. By 28-29, all seats should be filled by in boundary kids unless there are a lot of kids that try to transfer to other programs (IB at SLHS, TJ, or the academy programs).

The OMG Crossfield mom is back.

The opt-in shouldn’t happen in 2028-29 if everything goes planned but the paragraph reads that there will be opt-ins in 2028-29 if there are still empty seats that year.

Besides, Reid at one point said the next map will not include Crossfield and Fox Mill.

I'm not sure why you think saying OMG makes me a "Crossfield mom", but my kids go to Oak Hill and we are all but guaranteed to go to Western. I've heard about this mythical map E that takes them both out of the mix and instead puts in Lees Corner, but the link posted doesn't work and I haven't seen any emails about it, so I'll believe it when I see it.

Why won’t Reid include Crossfield or Fox Mill when they are closer to Western than their current Pyramid Schools?

Is she planning to leave Oak Hill at Chantilly Next?

Who cares? Reid is an idiot and the School Board doesn't have to listen to her.

Do you know how many things she's said to please some random group of people only for others to have to pretend she never said it?

Sounds like Meren. Except then Meren then turns around and pretend she never said it too.

just checked Rooted in Oakton petition. It's gone up 10 in the last week or so. The percentage of area signees has dropped from 80% to 79%. Small drop, but tells me the additional signees are family members who live elsewhere.

79% of supporters come from:
20171
22033
20191

So, 21 percent come from outside the area.

Does that percentage differ significantly from petitions made by other neighborhoods/ es’ during the boundary change?

Flint Hill ES’ change.org petition is 65% in area and Briarwood’s advocating a move to Oakton or Woodson is 62%.

Not necessarily true for Fox Mill. Half are absolutely closer to South Lakes.

*petition was for Oakton or Madison not Woodson my apologies. Briarwood is by Lee Highway and Nutley Street so very close to both schools. Nevertheless, petitions are never 100% for these sorts of things.

DP. Close enough to half. Half is equidistant and some are closer to South Lakes.

That person is just speculating. Reid said something along the lines of "we don't know what the next map will look like - it may not even include Fox Mill or Crossfield"
