My son has played CCL for three years now (U9 for 2 years and then U10). At those age groups, the furthest league game was Fredericksburg. The clubs we played changed slightly from year to year. For instance, our first U9 year, we played PWSI but not after that because they left CCL and a couple of MD clubs have joined in the past couple years as well. So unless a club that's further away than Fredericksburg joins CCL (which I suppose is possible!), that will likely be the furthest league game for a U9.

Tournaments can take you further, but not much. The furthest tournament we played was held in Richmond. This of course will vary from club to club as some some play more tournaments than others and may travel further out. Again, this is all at the U9/U10 level. Older teams are a whole other story for both league games and tournaments.

My U9 CCL had a Richmond game.

I was merely speaking of my experience and my son played two years of U9 in CCL and we never went to Richmond for a league game, only tournaments.

OMG "FARTHER."
Furthermore, there are several clubs located farther away than Fredericksburg. All one has to do is look at the CCL website to see that...sheesh.

OMG.... Okay ASSHOLE, you can stop being the grammar police. First: "The Oxford English Dictionary, Fowler's Modern English Usage, and a number of other sources say that, in most cases, it's fine to use “further” and “farther” interchangeably. People have been using them interchangeably for hundreds of years, and a few experts don't even follow the distinction."

Second, it's not as easy as looking on the CCL website because the initial question was in regard to a U9 player and not all U9 players at all clubs will compete against every club listed on the CCL website. I know this firsthand, so stop commenting on things you obviously don't know about. Idiot.

May I ask which tournaments last year that you know of? Thanks

Simmer down. Everyone here is an expert, everyone has an opinion and thought to share, and yet nobody knows anything.

We should all go out for a beer sometime.

sounds good but I'm sure there would still be a few people complaining about how far it would to travel for that beer with all the local pubs in the area. hahahahahaha

Yes, but I know a brewpub just north of Baltimore that has far superior beer to what you can find in Prince William. Or you can just drink Bud. Your choice.

The league includes some metro DMV clubs -- Arlington, Braddock Road, DC Stoddert, Lee Mount Vernon, Maryland United, McLean, Potomac, SYA.

Then a few clubs a little farther out -- Loudoun (not that far), Frederick, Fredericksburg.

Then pack up for an annual trip to Charlottesville, Richmond, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg and Roanoke.

(Unless they've started scheduling U9s to play only locally. How would that work for Roanoke, though? Would they not enter CCL until the older ages?)

I believe starting this year Fredericksburg is pulling U9 and U10 from CCL league games. I think they are only playing in house scrimmages and scrimmage fests instead of a formal league. So you probably don't need to worry about traveling there.

Easiest way to gauge the quality of the leagues is look at the state championships and what league the clubs are playing in. 90 percent are ccl

Particularly from three clubs -- Arlington, Loudoun and Braddock Road. They'll be great no matter which leagues they're in. Arlington and Loudoun have massive talent pools. Braddock Road has tradition (Hamm, Ellis, Cromwell, etc.) and great coaches.

Seems strange for people in other CCL clubs to justify trips to Virginia Beach and Roanoke when the top-tier CCL clubs are already here in NoVa.

I'd actually be more impressed with the argument (and I've heard it made before) that CCL exists so Roanoke, Beach FC and company can play NoVa and Richmond teams more often.
