Travel Soccer teams around NOVA let's discuss

Maybe not agreeable but their league would grow in size, access to more teams from existing clubs or new ones. Make it easier to implement club centric initiatives. Better scheduling for their coaches that may coach teams in both leagues. For club reps it would be one less meeting to attend, less management headaches with fields, rescheduling, documentation, procedures, etc. Only a few are in CCL so the majority of clubs and families would benefit.

Is everything about CCL?

And what do you do about the different governing bodies? U.S. Club and USYS? It just isn't as simple as your dream is.

Not about CCL. Because the majority of clubs are not in CCL than a NCSL/ODSL would make sense for the families and clubs involved. Both NCSL and ODSL are USYS so no change there. Forget CCL, not part of the change I'm discussing. Numbers wise there are more players in NCSL/ODSL.

I see what you are driving at but it will take ODSL collapsing for it happen.

No, in fact, the post to which you're responding isn't about CCL.

I'm actually starting to wonder if some rival league has people in this forum posing as CCL parents to make CCL look bad. This is pretty ridiculous.

My son just started travel this year U9 with a club in CCL. Do the really travel that far? Their online schedule seems to be localish clubs. Is this so called farther travel for older teams?

The league includes some metro DMV clubs -- Arlington, Braddock Road, DC Stoddert, Lee Mount Vernon, Maryland United, McLean, Potomac, SYA.

Then a few clubs a little farther out -- Loudoun (not that far), Frederick, Fredericksburg.

Then pack up for an annual trip to Charlottesville, Richmond, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg and Roanoke.

(Unless they've started scheduling U9s to play only locally. How would that work for Roanoke, though? Would they not enter CCL until the older ages?)

My son has played CCL for three years now (U9 for 2 years and then U10). At those age groups, the furthest league game was Fredericksburg. The clubs we played changed slightly from year to year. For instance, our first U9 year, we played PWSI but not after that because they left CCL and a couple of MD clubs have joined in the past couple years as well. So unless a club that's further away than Fredericksburg joins CCL (which I suppose is possible!), that will likely be the furthest league game for a U9.

Tournaments can take you further, but not much. The furthest tournament we played was held in Richmond. This of course will vary from club to club as some some play more tournaments than others and may travel further out. Again, this is all at the U9/U10 level. Older teams are a whole other story for both league games and tournaments.

Some earlier posts mentioned Cougar and Dynamite as being very good ODSL clubs especially at the young ages. Do they participate in tournaments? If so, which tournaments, which division, and how did they do? That's one way to play better competition.

My U9 CCL had a Richmond game.

Yes Cougars has participated in tournaments and have done well. Tournaments are fun but from a development perspective it is better to have exposure to better competition on a week to week basis.

If you are going to complain about the amount of travel in CCL please at least be accurate. You will only play an AWAY game against SOCA, Richmond, Roanoke and VA Legacy every other year not annually. And for those two far away games per year send your kid to the game with a teammate and your far away travel problem is completely solved.

OMG "FARTHER."
Furthermore, there are several clubs located farther away than Fredericksburg. All one has to do is look at the CCL website to see that...sheesh.

No, not for this guy because ALL of their games are away games.

You know it isn't the thing for them when they qualify Loudoun as "not that far"
