Hayfield Football Coach Fired

With the arrival of NIL money in college and high school football, this court's preliminary decision just signals the future. All these anti-recruiting rules will be relics of the past. These youth are free agents and who is the VHSL to restrict their ability to earn money and recognition. And who is the VHSL to restrict the coach's freedom of speech to tell a prospective "student" athlete the benefits of playing for him. Amateurism is dying quickly in scholastic sports and this is just one bell weather signaling the end. In five years the activities that many are alleging happened at Hayfield will not be violations of any rule.

Who are they? They are the governing body of VA sports.
I get the whole NIL thing but not at the expense of being a student and residency. Don't expect the transfer portal for high school to be open anytime soon.

Ha, it doesn't sound like FCPS thinks FOIA applies to any of the topics in this scandal.

I did not have this thought at beginning of all this- saw kids caught up in this and collateral damage- but at this point, with no other adults teaching a lesson and the seniors almost 18 or older, do wish a possible outcome here would be to strike the records of the Hayfield players. Yes, kids can report whatever they want and no one can stop them, but in the official records, deem all games as if not played, no stats, nothing.

I believe that info was supposed to be released in September? Not specific to this situation, but X number of kids at Hayfield who are homeless or have home instability (which is what athletes have abused all over the country).

Is that you Abe? Abe Karmack? Parent how interviewed and hired Overton and has been all over social media defending him?

Reid in school meeting made big mention of the 400 hours for INTERNAL investigation, but when FOIA request for any records on it, it’s now was an external investigation and no info?

It also appears schools are still contemplating a boycott. What a mess.

A boycott will only rob their own players of their last game this season.

Have the coaches indicated when their decision (whether or not to boycott) will be final?

At this point not playing is to pick the right path for the long run. Read the Mt Vernon parents letter and the coaches letters. They are the lessons to be learning here.

I am confused about this too! Just by passing it through external counsel they claimed there were no responsive documents? Seems this should be pushed.

Not true, it also precludes Hayfield players from having their gaudy highlights advertised on TV and elsewhere.

Reid will have told them to play and “let the courts and VHSL work it out.” I hope the parents and players don’t listen and stand up for more than FCPS is willing to do.

Guessing her “internal” just meant they hired their own Blankenship attorney and now wanting to say all attorney-client privileged.

We won't hide behind coaches, parents, and lawyers, because we're too scared....

Weird flex but ok. This is not about 757. This isn't about playing scared and soft. If you read the letter the coaches sent it explains line for line. But no you just want to post some nonsense about schools no one in this area care about.

I’m on the fence, I get it, you’re taking an ethical and moral stand here

On the other hand, you play you lose you lose what if you play hayfield and you win

I rather think the southeast VA schools will take hayfield to school in the larger bracket that’s just my thinking

I will say again that if all the games were played this week and hayfield lost the dec 4 hearing won’t happen

If they win it will still happen but it could still end with them continuing to play.

When is the state final, I thought it was always first week of December but now it’ll be a week later because of this round happening a week later correct

So I guess my thought is this. Get to the 12/4 hearing and hayfield has what 1 maybe 2 more games…does anyone really think the court says no no no you can’t play seems unlikely to be honest.

Anyway this is all very entertaining, I guess I’m at the point where I’m a bit more just play the damn games already and settle this stuff on the field. You don’t think those other seven teams and coaches and the down south schools won’t go for blood. I know they will maybe they lose but I don’t think anyone is looking at their team and saying be scared, I’m think they’re all telling their team if we play them they hurt us the first time now let’s go kick their ass, shut them up, and send them packing. Then for your basketball and other sport players when you hit the fields or the mat the track the court you play hayfield this year and you bring the hurt as payback. You let those other hayfield athletes know it’s not personal but it’s about sending a message to the people in charge about what’s right and what’s wrong.

I was already to clap at this until this. Let's hurt those Hayfield lacrosse girls because of what the boys did in football sounds ridiculous and like a child. But I support everything else you're saying.

Almost as ridiculous as VHSL saying lets ban the football team because a player ran track.

I also pick one small detail and run with it!
