Quit electing do nothing republicans. Elect moderate democrats if you actually to see this addressed. |
And again, the GOP has absolutely ZERO interest in immigration reform - it's far more valuable as a political wedge issue. Sure, they propose totally unworkable solutions to give the appearance that they give a crap, but they'll never actually do anything. |
That may be true, but the only way to get Dems to act on it, is to send them a message via the election. Which means it will be 2028 when they may actually do something about this issue. |
“Immigration policy must protect U.S. workers against unfair competition from foreign workers, with an appropriately higher level of protection to the most vulnerable in our society”
– June 28, 1995 "The Commission is particularly concerned about the impact of immigration on the most disadvantaged within our already resident society – inner city youth, racial and ethnic minorities, and recent immigrants who have not yet adjusted to life in the U.S.” – August 3, 1994 “Illegal aliens have no right to be in this country. They are not part of our social community. There is no intention that they integrate. As human beings, they have certain rights – we certainly should not turn them away in a medical emergency. As a nation, it is in our interest to provide a limited range of other services- immunizations and treatment of communicable diseases certainly fall into that category. But, if illegal aliens require other aid, it should rightly be provided in their own countries.” – August 9, 1994 Barbara Jordan, When Democrats supported US workers first! |
This! As a moderate Dem, I must add that those Dems have to eschew wokeness. For example, Biden is as moderate as they come but a fair amount of wokeness (like Title IX changes) and pushing DEI has infected his presidency. I'd like that to stop. |
Some of them are headed to Canada. Honestly, it's a safer bet. As things are we don't have enough workers to do the crappy jobs your family refuses to do. But instead of encouraging your own kids to become home health care aids or drywall installers, you are just hoping those jobs aren't important. Half my extended family lives in New York, and it has long been an immigrant haven. I haven't heard any complaints. And again, you're welcome that we let you people in. Since you don't seem to understand the point of our nation I'm not sure why we did, but oh well. |
If any of you were serious about cracking down on illegal immigration you would crack down on the people who hire them. Republicans and Democrats alike have suggested this multiple times over the decades, but since everyone likes their cheap labor, no one ever actually wants reform. And that's a bipartisan issue. I've known a lot of undocumented workers (personally not because I employed them), and while I have every sympathy for their predicament, I would understand if we tightened labor restrictions. It's unfortunate that so many industries: restaurants, food prep, home health care, construction, farming, landscaping, etc. rely on a shadow cash economy to function, but since you all eat in restaurants, employ companies that use undocumented workers, don't exclusively butcher your own meat or grow your own produce, your hypocrisy is showing. And you don't want immigration reform. You want to whine about "open borders," and pretend like you're not just being a racist xenophobe. |
You are really hung up on that Trans stuff. You live in Montgomery county, right? Just focus on strengthening the moderate dems. Seriously MAGAs!! PAY ATTENTION! The do-nothing-nihilist-attention-whoring-aholes you elect to congress aren’t going to fix this. Trump isn’t going to fix this. It’s going to take legislation and money. Elect moderate dems if you want this fixed. |
Please name some local moderate dems whenever you live. |
I think excusing undocumented worker exploitation under the guise of ‘your family won’t do these jobs’ is a failure to see that the two are explicitly linked. People would do those jobs if they paid an appropriate wage. And people would pay an appropriate wage if they didn’t have a choice. Some might choose to fold instead but the market would adjust just like it has to the cheap labor. Illegal immigrant populations are contributing to the current widening wealth gap we are experiencing. |
I'm not excusing it. I wrote the post below that one as well where I go into how complicit we all are on this topic. The truth is, much as we like to pretend we're more enlightened than our ancestors, we depend on the same feudalism. |
Yes, I am angry that my daughters' schools allow males into their bathrooms, locker rooms, and on their sports teams. I am angry that Biden floated this same policy in the first draft of Title IX revisions. Everyone who doesn't hate women should be angry about this. But I agree with you about the fixes. |
[Sad trombone] |
Here's how that goes: Dems propose legislation, Republicans load it up with poison pill amendments and it either fails to get out of committee or gets voted down on the floor. Rinse, repeat. |
I live in republican gerrymandered state. I will settle for a moderate conservative. |
